Redinha 1811

The Battlefield. Pole bitwy.

This time in SESWC we played the episode from the Penisular War, the battle of Redinha in 1811. Angus and Bill suplied us with their figures. We used the 28mm soldiers with Black Powder rules.
The game scenario, provided by Bill, placed all action on the fight which had place during the retreat of Ney from Portugal. The Anglo-Portuguese (Angus, myself and later on Campbell as well) forces ware stopped by French (Bill and Ray). All actions during the game was set up allong the stream and was divided on three separated sectors: cavalry charges on Allied left, British trying to cross the ford in the centre and Portuguese supported later by British trying to flank the French on the left side of Allied.
British cavalry made the long run into French positions on the left, but had been stopped by the French square, then arrived the French cavalry and in several charges finally crushed the British and forced them to withdraw.
In the centre the perfect fire from the French gun eliminated very quickly the Portuguese cannon, so the troops over here had been left without the artillery support. Later on the second British brigade bring another gun, but the fire was very uneffective at all. British tryed to cross the ford, but the French defence was very hard over here. The arriving of the second British brigade helped to eliminate the French gun, and then to cross the stream, but the French defence was still hard and till the end of the game British stuck over here in neverendins melees.
On the allied left, the Portuguese tryed to flank the French, but there was the problem here with the village ocupied by French. Portuguese with the help of their skirmishes, blocked the troops in the villa and with two battalions crossed the stream. Here their had to stand with French and Irish battalions. The Irish charged one of the Portuguese battalions and destroy them, whilst the second one was forced to withdraw by deadly French fire. Finally the both opposide forces stand across the stream and fired each other. When the game was almost over, the last Portuguese battalion decided to charged the villa occupied by French, but failed. Game finished with the French victory.
Angus i Bill dostarczyli figurki do gry. Użyliśmy zasad Black Powder i żołnierzy w skali 28mm.
The French. Francuzi.

The Allied with Angus. Alianci z Angusem.

Irish vs Portuguese. Irlandczycy vs Portugalczycy.

Cavalries. Kawalerie.

Left Allied wing after Portuguese withdraw. Lewe skrzydło aliantów po portugalskim odwrocie.

Fighting over the villa. Walki o willę.
