Valour & Fortitude: French Indian War.

2. The game.

We were free to split our forces into the brigades as we wished. The outcome is presented in the first chapter of the report. There were few objectives: the hill and the farm in the woods were worth 2 victory points each and 3 buildings in town were worth 1 point each. That plus failed Fortitude tests would determine the winner of the game. It started with a British march with 3 land brigades. The French were able to deploy their troops in the woods with some dummy marks. On my side, I created the safe circle and awaited the British. Soon British (led by Mike) were spotted and attacked by my Natives. I lost 2 units, but they shook some Brits and forced them to withdraw, so they could be rallied later. That was crucial to my defence, as eliminated the British numerical advantage. The final charge was repulsed and my objective was saved.

In our centre, John tried to take the hill at any cost. He carried a large number of charges on well-prepared Peter's position. Peter's flank was covered by Michael's light troops. Despite the enormous losses John did not manage to take the hill and lost almost all of his men.

In the first turns, Michael moved all his regular troops into the town and awaited the enemy landing forces (Mike). British slowly floated down the river and during that, they got shot by my Coureur des Bois. That appeared to be crucial as I managed to shake two of his units. That spread his forces into two separate convoys. The lead one finally managed to make land but the other was left behind. It was too late to change the outcome of the game. That finished the game with a decisive French victory!

Caen 1944 (# 3A)

Last Thursday we all come back to our 'forgotten' Bolt Action campaign, Caen 1944. Finally we started the third turn. We played the centre action, where British and Canadian troops moved forward to take the Caen. Those troops where lead by Donald and Bill. Bill asked me to borrow him my troops for this game and finally he cannot made that evening so I jumped into his chair. The same happened to Germans players, where Brian has been replaced by John Glass.

1. Forces. Siły.

Allied placed 1500 pts British tank platoon (Donald Adamson) supported by Canadians (Bartek Żynda) with 1200 pts. Germans placed 1200 pts Infantry platoon (John Glass) together with German 1500 pts tank platoon (Campbell Hardie).
Alianci wystawili brytyjski pluton pancerny na 1500 pkt. (Donald Adamson), wsparty Kanadyjczykami (Bartek Żynda) z 1200 pkt. Niemcy wystawili pluton piechoty na 1200 pkt. (John Glass), wsparty plutonem pancernym na 1500 pkt. (Campbell Hardie).

2. The game. Gra.

This time we did not have to much luck during whole game. Firstly, our artillery attack went completely wrong. First Donald rolled 1 for incoming artillery and his troops get hardly pinned and in next turn I made the same... So our only hope was to use our secret weapons: three flamethrowers. Two of them was on Wasps and one was carried by soldiers. However soon it turned out, that two Wasps are illegal under the campaign rules as too powerful, but this time they allowed us to use them. They cleared the objective (the white house in the centre), but then Donald decided to complicate our game one more time. He took the wrong bag with order dices and for the few turns, he draw dices from the bag, where was several 'tea time' dices and none of the allied... It was not surprising, that the turns ended very quicklyen't been moving and time was running out very fast. Finally we did not managed to take control over the objective and the game finished with German victory.

Mont Ormel 1944

Last Wednesday we all met at Hugh for big Bolt Action game. Colin Jack after my suggestions prepared the scenario for our game. He gave a chance to re fight the battle fought by Poles at Mont Ormel in August 1944. For the game Hugh built a fantastic table, including the road full of destroyed German vehicles, called by Poles "Dog's Field", by analogy to the original medieval battlefield, where the same as the road was full of dead Germans and their animals.

2. Orders. Rozkazy.

ALLIED/ALIANCI
Allied units are attempting to seal off the Falaise pocket with thousands of German troops trapped inside. The Canadians have reached St. Lambert-sur-Dives and the Americans have reached Bourg-St-Leonard. Between those forces the Poles have reached Mont Ormel and have dug in to await the anticipated German assault. They are already short of ammunition and supplies, but have a commanding view of the surrounding country. The Poles must hold on until the Canadians can break through and relieve them. All Polish infantry may be dug in and tanks on Mont Ormel will count as hull-down.
Oddziały alianckie próbują zamknać kocioł pod Falaise z uwięzionymi tam tysiącami Niemców. Kanadyjczycy dotarli do St. Lambert-sur-Dives a Amerykanie osiągnęli Bourg-St-Leonard.

GERMANS/NIEMCY
Allied units are attempting to seal off the Falaise pocket with thousands of German troops trapped inside. Many different units are attempting to break out but they have to force the Poles off Mont Ormel from where they have a commanding view of the entire area...

* hull-down (Colin's house rule) - if tank firing its gun at the tank, which position is above the firing tank it gave -1 to hit/ jeśli czołg strzela od innego czołgu znajdującego się powyżej strzelającego to daje to -1 do trafienia.

3. The Game. Gra.

As the Polish commander I spread our forces on two groups and 2'' Mortar, 17pdr and Infantry squad in central position, ready to bring the support to western or eastern group if necessary. Germans started the game with their heavy cats, however they had been stopped by accurate firing from Dave's tanks. Then Germans tried to break the Poles by using the artillery barrage, but it did not broke them. Poles stand still and carried on. When finally the situation becomes dramatical for Poles, and Dave lost two tanks (for the price of three German tanks destroyed), he received the support from one of my 3'' Mortars. The accurate fire silent the light Howitzer, 2 Infantry squads and something else (I don't remember now). Germans finally managed to climb on the mount, but the situation on the other side of the battle was cleared enough, so this assault would be easily stopped.
Polacy wytrwali i kontynuowali walkę.

On the other side of the mount the Germans started assault to break off the pocket. But they did not moved forward and instead they decided to break Poles by accurate fire. Specially very dangerous was German Nebelwerfer. It managed to destroy one of the HQ, MMG and heavily pinned one of the infantry unit. Both Panther and supported their Pz IV (the second Pz IV was hidden behind the buildings) fought with Martin's Sherman's. Unfortunately for us, Germans managed to knock down our Firefly. As the situation started to be very serious I pushed all my reserves to support Martin. First I called the Artillery and pinned Nebelwerfer, then I managed to hit it from my 17 pdr and destroy it. My second 3" Mortar started to pinning German infantry. Then Bill decided to push all his forces against us, but then something bad for him happen...
Wpierw wezwałem artylerię i spinaowałem Nebelwerfera i potem udało mi się go wyeliminować moją 17 funtówką.

It were the Canadians. They just arrived. Now tank fought other tanks on the close range. Finally the Canadians together with Poles overwhelmed Germans. No German tank remain at this end of the table. The game finished with Allied victory.
To byli Kanadyjczycy.

4. Summary. Podsumowanie.

Our game finished with very historically result. Germans did not broke the Polish defences on the hill and Canadians arrived in a very critical moment. The Falaise pocket remain closed with many German soldiers killed or captured. At the end some historical pictures, which I found in the internet.
