New buildings.

I’ve been struggling with these buildings for several years. I bought them long ago in a post-Christmas sale at a Homebase store, originally intending to add them to my building collection. However, that plan stalled. First, our club already has a rather large collection of buildings, and second, other projects kept occupying my mind. So I kept returning to them, only to postpone them after several unsuccessful attempts. Finally, I came up with the idea of organising a game for today: the Austrian siege of Sandomierz in June 1809. The fortress city itself will be a key element, so I finally found the motivation to finish these buildings. They may not be perfectly painted, but they’ll do for the game. They are a church and a tenement house. Unfortunately, I don’t know who manufactured them.

However, these buildings weren’t enough for the upcoming game. Sandomierz’s defences relied on the many churches and monasteries surrounding the city, so I took advantage of Warbases’ offer and bought pre-painted buildings during the latest Claymore. All I had to do was assemble them, which took less than an hour. I added two tenement houses and a church to my collection. I hope this will be enough.

Kilka nowych terenów do mojej kolekcji. Część z nich została już wykorzystana w grach, a część wciąż czeka na swój debiut.

The first is the wooden fortress from Zvezda. I bought it ages ago during one of Claymore's Bring and Buy. Since then, it has taken up a lot of space in my drawer of shame for many years. Until now!

Pierwszym jest drewniana forteca od Zvezdy. Kupiłem ją lata temu podczas jednego z Claymore'owych Bring and Buy. Od tego czasu przez długie lata zajmował dużą powierzchnię w mojej szufladzie wstydu. Do teraz!

The second terrain is the wooden bridge from Supreme Littleness Design. In our Central and Eastern Europe games we are forced to use stone bridges, whereas that kind of material was rarely used. Much more common are wooden bridges. Here is a solution to that!

Drugim terenem jest drewniany most z Supreme Littleness Design. W naszych grach z Europy Środkowo-Wschodniej jesteśmy zmuszeni do używania kamiennych mostów, podczas gdy tego rodzaju materiał był rzadko używany. Dużo częstsze są mosty drewniane. Oto rozwiązanie!

The last element is the earth fortifications from Magnetic Displays Cortani. I used them already during our Warsaw 1656 games.

Ostatnim elementem są umocnienia polowe od Magnetic Displays Cortani. Były już używane podczas naszych gier Warszawa 1656.

Walls. Murki.

Today something new. This time it is terrains. I ordered them from Warbases. They all are resin and are very well done. A quick paint job and are ready to use. In the set, you get one with a gate, two curved, four straight and one straight half broken. Very useful. I will try to use it in one of my incoming games.

Dziś coś nowego. Tym razem tereny. Zamówiłem je z Warbases. Wykonane są z żywicy i są bardzo dobrze wykonane. Szybkie malowanie i są już gotowe do użycia. W zestawie dostajecie jedną bramę, dwa zakrzywione, cztery proste i jeden częściowo zniszczony odcinek. Bardzo użyteczne. Postaram się w jednej z nadchodzących gier ich użyć.

Dzisiaj kolejny skończony element: murek od Tereny do Gier. Przeleżał on w szufladzie dość długi czas - był on jedną z nagród w konkursie modelarskim forum Strategie.net, gdzie moja HMS Britannia, zajęła 2 miejsce. Ostatnio postanowiłem jednak trochę "posprzątać w szufladach i oto efekt,:

Nowe drogi. New roads.

Tym razem drogi są mniejsze, mają tylko 4,75 cm szerokości (1,75 cala) i reprezentują drogi polne. doskonale nadają się do modeli w skalach 15, 20 i 28mm. Teraz czas na połączenia dróg głównych i polnych a w przyszłości na drogi brukowane dla miast.

This time the roads are smaller, they are only 4.75 cm wide (1.75'') and will represent the country roads. They are great for 15, 20 and 28mm models. Now I'm going to do the main and country road connections and after them the paved roads for towns.

Polska 1944 (30); Poland 1944 (30) - Domek i coś dla Niemców oraz brawo dla Armourfast. House and something for Germans and well done Armourfast.

Dzisiaj trochę nowych rzeczy dla mojej kolekcji 20mm: Polska 1944. Pierwszą rzeczą jest domek. Co prawda bardziej on pasuje do Francji, ale do małego miasteczka gdzieś w Polsce też się nada. Domek to produkcja Armourfast. Z tym domkiem związana jest pewna historia. W dziale dystrybucji doszło do małej pomyłki i ten domek nie trafił do mnie za pierwszym razem tylko zamówienie kogoś innego. Gdy poinformowałem o tym fakcie producenta, Armourfast pozwolił mi zatrzymać artykuły przeze mnie nie zamówione i szybciutko dosłał produkty za które zapłaciłem (razem z domkiem dokupiłem już wcześniej prezentowane Shermany). W ten oto sposób stałem się posiadaczem dodatkowych niemieckich haubic 105mm (cały czas czekają na pomalowanie, nie mogę się jeszcze zdecydować czy pomalować je na 1944 rok, czy też na 1939) oraz bohatera dalszej części tego postu: Sturminfanteriegeschütz 33B. Bardzo dziękuję Armourfast, naprawdę dobra robota!!! Zanim przejdę do tego drugiego modelu, wpierw prezentacja domku. Oto i on:

Today some new stuff for my 20mm collection: Poland 1944. First item is the house. Although it much more fit for France, but for the small town somewhere in Poland is good as well. This house comes from Armourfast. With this item is connected some story. There was some mistake in the distribution department and instead of mine I received packaging belonging to someone else. When I have informed about it, Armourfast decided, that I can keep those items, and very quickly I received the correct items (besides of this house I ordered, previously shown on this blog, Sherman tanks). That's the way how I came into possession extra 105mm German Howitzers (still waiting for being painted as I can not decided should I do them for 1944 or 1939...) and the hero of the second part of this post: Sturminfanteriegeschütz 33B. Thank you Armourfast for this once again - very well done!!! Before I will write about the second model, first the house. Here it is:

Teraz kolej na następny model, a raczej dwa. Są to działa samobieżne Sturminfanteriegeschütz 33B. Podczas ich malowania, pogrzebałem trochę w książkach, czy też nadadzą się do mojego projektu Polska 1944. Ogółem tych dział wyprodukowano tylko 24 sztuki, gdzie prawie połowa została zniszczona w Stalingradzie. Z pozostałej reszty utworzono baterię w składzie wpierw 22 Dywizji Pancernej, a następnie po jej rozbiciu w składzie 23 Dywizji Pancernej. Bateria na pewno wzięła udział w Bitwie pod Kurskiem, jednak po tym w moich źródłach dochodzi do pewnych rozbieżności. Według jednych bateria została rozbita w walkach na Ukrainie do grudnia 1943 roku, z kolei inne podają, że walczyła jeszcze do września 1944 w Polsce, na przyczółku sandomierskim. Mam nadzieję, kiedyś to ustalić. A na razie moi Niemcy dysponują baterią dwóch cięzkich dział 150mm! Już podczas pisania tego posta, zauważyłem że gąsienice pojazdów są trochę za czyste i trzeba to zmienieć...

Now is the time for the next model, but rather two. There are two self-propelled gun Sturminfanteriegeschütz 33B. During the painting I did some research, if they are correct for my Poland 1944 project, or not. There was only 24 guns produced in total and almost half of them was destroyed in Stalingrad. From the rest of them Germans created the battery first assignated to the 22nd  Panzer Division, and after its wiped out to the 23rd Panzer Division. Those battery for sure fought during the Battle of Kursk, but after this there some discrepancies in my sources. According to some of them, the battery was destroyed during the fighting in Ukraine till December 1943, but according to other, the battery took part in fighting till the end of September 1944 in Poland on the Sandomierz bridgehead. I hope someday to find it out. So far my Germans have the battery of two heavy 150mm guns! When I was writing this post I noticed that the tracks of those vehicles are little to clean, I'm just going to sort this problem right now...

Drogi (3) i drzewa iglaste. Roads (3) and pine trees.

Waśnie się zorientowałem, że nie pokazałem jeszcze moich nowych elementów na stół. Pierwsze to skrzyżowania do moich dróg (pierwszy zestaw, pracuję jeszcze nad drugim zestawem) i drzewa iglaste (80 szt.), które swego czasu kupiłem na ebayu i którym jedynie dorobiłem bardziej stabilne bazy.

I have just realized that I never showed my new items for my table. The first are to my road junctions (this is the first set, I'm still working on the second set) and pine trees (80 pieces), which  I bought on ebay, and I only based them.

Witam! Dzisiaj pokażę w jaki sposób wykonuje swoje drogi.
Hello! Today I will show you how I do my roads.
Jako bazy do moich dróg wykorzystuje plastikowe arkusze dla modelarzy, takie jak te:

Z tych kart wycinamy interesujące nas kształty. Ja do swoich dróg głównych wybrałem rozmiar 3,5 cala (9 cm) - co pozwala mi na ich swobodne użycie w skalach 20mm i 28mm.

From these cards, cut out the shapes interest to us. For the main roads I chose size of 3.5 inches (9 cm) - which allows me to freely use them in 20mm and 28mm scales.

Następnie pokrywam drogi cienką warstwą masy wypełniającej do ścian. Ja używam najtańszej pollyfilly (coś w rodzaju gipsu):

Then I cover the roads with a thin layer of  plaster. I use the cheapest pollyfilla:

Kiedy masa jest jeszcze mokra, posypuje ją piaskiem. Po tym zostawiam wszystko do wyschnięcia na noc. Jeżeli nałożysz trochę grubszą warstwę można ją bardzo łątwo rzeźbić i na przykład dodać ślady kół, gąsienic itp.

When the plaster is still wet, sprinkle it with sand. After this I leave everything to dry overnight. If you put little thicker layer then it can be very easy to sculpt and you can add tracks such as wheels, etc.

Gdy nasze drogi są już suche, wtedy przystępujemy do malowania. Jako kolorów bazowych używam wpierw sprajów: czarnego (Chaos Black od Citadeli) a gdy ten wyschnie wtedy piaskowego (Sand od Humbrola).

When our roads are dry, then we start painting. First as a base colors I use sprays: black (Chaos Black by Citadel) and then when it is dry, sandy (Sand from Humbrol).

Gdy to już wyschnie pokrywam wszystko rozwodnionym washem: Agrax Earthshade od Citadeli. A następnie techniką suchego pędzla przy użyciu dwóch kolorów: Sand (Humbrol) i Ivory (Valejo). Oba kolory mieszam uzyskując coraz jaśniejsze odcienie. Gdy to skończę nakładam wash na to ponownie. Gdy to już mam skończone, krawędzie zewnętrzne drogi maluję German Fieldgrey (Valejo). Na sam koniec krawędzie posypuję posyką modelarską i oto drogi są gotowe do użycia. 

When it's dry I cover all with wathered wash: Agrax Earthshade from Citadel. And then I drybrush it by using two colors: Sand (Humbrol) and Ivory (Valejo). I mix both colors  to get more and lighter shades. After this I washed it again. When it's finished I paint the outer edges of the road with German Fieldgrey  (Valejo). At the end I sprinkle edges with grass scatter and here the roads are ready for use.

Drogi (1) ; Roads (1)

Jedną z głównych scenerii naszych stołów to drogi. Ja postanowiłem wykonać kilka piaskowo żwirowych dróg, takie jakie jeszcze niedawno były bardzo popularne na wschodzie Europy. Na razie wykonałem kilka modułów dróg głównych. Są to odcinki proste o długościach 12 cali (5 modułów), 6 cali (2 moduły) i 3 cale (6 modułów). Drogi są o szerokości 3,5 cala więc doskonale nadadzą się do gier w skalach 20mm i 28mm. Już wkrótce pokażę zakręty i skrzyżowania.

One of the main elements of our tables are roads. I decided to do some sand and gravel roads, such that not long time ago were very popular in Eastern Europe. For now, I made some major roads modules. These are straight sections with lengths of 12 inches (5 modules), 6 inches (2 modules) and 3 inches (6 modules). The roads are 3.5 inches wide so perfectly fit the games in 20mm and 28mm. Soon I'll show turns and crossroads.

Oto pomalowane przeze mnie domki. Pochodzą od Pegasusa i doskonale nadają się do 20mm i 28mm.

Here you have painted by me some houses. They are made by Pegasus and are really good for both 20mm and 28mm scale.

Dymy. Smokes.

Prace nad 24 Pułkiem w toku, jako odskocznie zrobiłem sobie kilka dymków do zniszczonych czołgów, wozów pancernych itp. Sposób ich wykonania podpatrzyłem od Hugh Wilson'a, z małą modyfikacją. Do ich wykonania użyłem: monet na podkładki, drucianego zmywaka do naczyń. farb i superglue. Do monety przykleiłem odcięty kawałek zmywaka, oczywiście odpowiednio wymodelowany, następnie pokryłem to kolorem bazowym, a potem namalowałem ogień na podstawie i gotowe, można używać.

Work on the 24 Regiment in progress, as something relaxing, I made a several smokes for damaged tanks, armored vehicles, etc.  I copied this method from Hugh Wilson, with a small modification. I used to make them: coins for bases, stainless steel scourers, paints and superglue. First I glued scourer (properly shaped), next I put black primer on this, and then paints for fire efects and ready to use.
