Saxons 7YW: The last reinforcements.

Here’s the final group of reinforcements for the Saxons from the Seven Years’ War. This time, it includes a light regimental gun and a few ADCs. Additionally, it features a mix of miniature manufacturers (Crann Tara and Eureka Miniatures), with all bases sourced from Warbases.

The first piece is a regimental gun. The gun model is from Eureka Miniatures, while the crew members are from Crann Tara Miniatures. I'm not sure where the gun rammer came from, as I found it in a drawer and decided to use it.

The final element is the three ADCs. All the figures are from Eureka Miniatures. I painted them in the colours of the Rochow Fusiliers regiment. Two of them carry flags, but their origins are different.

The first ADC has the Leibgrenadiergardeleibfahne, which was my second copy when I painted Saxon generals. I have now decided to use it. The pattern is from the Kronoskaf website.

The second is a larger copy of the Gardedukorps cavalry regiment's banner. This one comes from Frédéric Aubert.

I'm taking a break from painting for two to three weeks while I go on holiday. I'll post a game report soon, and I'll see you after the short break.

Saxon Infantry: IR Prinz Maximilian, IR Minckwitz, GB Götze.

Here's another instalment of miniatures I painted during my recovery at home. This time,  Saxon infantry from the Seven Years' War, specifically the Prinz Maximilian and Minckwitz regiments, as well as the Götze Grenadiers. All the miniatures are from Eureka Miniatures, and the bases are from Warbases.

While painting these units, I decided to slightly reorganise their size. I will configure all of them to consist of five bases, each containing four figures. This reorganisation will also apply to my remaining units, allowing me to create new units from the surplus figures.

IR Mincwitz:

IR Prinz Maximilian:

GB Götze:

The flags were once again designed by Frédéric Aubert, and I printed them myself. Instead of using the flag poles provided by Eureka, I opted for my own iron rods. Unfortunately, I don't remember where I purchased them.

I've almost finished painting my Saxon figures. I still have a few that are already painted but need bases, which I will show you soon. After that, I'll decide what to paint next.

Saxon Cavalry: Garde du Korps and Graf Rutowsky Leichte Dragoner

While I was recovering from surgery, I had the opportunity to focus on painting. I must admit that two weeks helped me significantly reduce my backlog of unpainted miniatures. I decided to paint everything I had for my Saxons from the Seven Years' War. First, I'll share my work on the cavalry. I painted two units, and all the miniatures are from Eureka Miniatures, which are a pleasure to paint. As usual, the bases are from Warbases.

I started by working on the guard units, beginning with Graf Rutowski's Light Dragoons. I used a banner from a set I purchased previously from Frédéric Aubert. However, if you're considering using the banner from Kronoskaf for your units, I advise against it. That banner is incorrect because it features the coat of arms of the Vasa dynasty, which ruled the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth from 1587 to 1668. Therefore, it would not have been used on Saxon banners.

The next unit I painted is the Garde du Korps. I chose to depict it in the colours it would have worn on the battlefield, complete with a collar and cuirass. The flag is again sourced from Frédéric Aubert. In this instance, I decided to paint a drummer with kettledrums. I struggled to find a suitable design for the drum apron, so I opted for a design used by the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Army at that time. The initials "AR" were featured on that apron, so I incorporated the same design into my own.

My cavalry currently consists of four units: cuirassiers, dragoons, and two Uhlan regiments. Next, I will show you the infantry, which includes two musketeer units and one grenadier unit. For now, they need to dry completely before I apply the final varnish and flags. Once that's done, they will be ready for presentation. I'm also back at the club today, so I will have a game report up soon.

Gross-Mühlwitz 1758.

This time the fictional battle between my Saxons, supported by Austrian cavalry versus Michael's Prussians. The rules used were the Seven Years. Michael came out with a fascinating scenario. Prussian forces had to withdraw the heavy guns, stolen from Saxons and the camp. More details on Michael's blog (link at the bottom of the relation, as usual).

Tym razem fikcyjna bitwa pomiędzy moimi Sasami, wspartymi austriacką kawalerią przeciw Prusakom Michaela. Zasady użyte do gry to Seven Years. Michael wymyślił bardzo ciekawy scenariusz. Prusacy musieli wycofać ciężkie działa, zabrane Sasom i swój obóz.

2. The game. Gra.

Firstly all Prussian forces had to be deployed on the table, then the Saxons deployed. My plan was to concentrate all cavalry on one flank, destroy the outnumbered Prussians in front of them, force the right flank cavalry to move on the other side, to protect the camp and then with our left flank infantry cut the Prussians from the bridge (the only way of the withdrawal for them). You have to admit, brilliant plan. Here, is how it went during the game.

It started with a large Austro-Saxonian cavalry charge. As it was expected, our forces forced the Prussians to withdraw. However, not without some problems. Michael managed to fire his heavy guns, but soon they were silenced, because of the lack of ammunition (Michael rolled for every heavy gun 1xD3, and he got two ones and I think one '3'...). Our cavalry forced the Prussians to withdraw, which finished with opening the Prussian flank. Saxon Uhlans used that gap and charged the heavy guns, destroying two of them! Tim, who commanded our left flank, did an outstanding job!

Sascy ułani weszli w tą przerwę i zniszczyli dwa ciężkie działa! Tim, który dowodził naszą lewą flanką, wykonał świetną robotę!

In the meantime, our infantry moved forward. Our most on-the-right infantry brigade has been slowed down by the accurate Prussian artillery fire, but the rest of them managed to reach the enemy on musket and light guns range. That was devastating for Prussians. Soon they started to lose their units. We just needed the final push.

W międzyczasie, nasza piechota maszerowała do przodu.

Our last push was the medium guns. As soon they were placed in the position, they welcomed Prussians with heavy fire. That caused more casualties and as a result more lost units. Finally, they managed to move their second cavalry brigade to the other side and in that way protect the camp, but the losses they suffered, gave the victory to the Saxons.

Casualties: Left: Saxons, Rigth: Prussians.
