Conquest of the Empire again.

Last week, we had trouble deciding on a game to play because no one wanted to organize it. Fortunately, Mike stepped in and suggested playing Conquest of the Empire again. We had played it once before, about 2 years ago, and I distinctly remember getting my forces completely crushed by my opponents. This time, we had the maximum number of players, which was 6.

Six players became consuls of the following provinces: Fin (Macedonia, black), Mike (Galatia, blue), Alasdair (Egypt, red), myself (Carthage, yellow), Tim (Hispania, purple), and Peter (Italy, green). Over several turns, all players slowly expanded their domains, and no one seemed to want to attack anyone else. Of course, this peaceful coexistence didn't last...

I successfully occupied the regions of North Africa, spanning from modern-day Morocco to the Libyan-Egyptian border. Additionally, my fleet took control of the Balearic Islands. To safeguard my borders, I worked on establishing a network of truces and alliances, forming an informal agreement with Tim and Peter. The three of us assembled our armies and made preparations to advance eastward. However, unsettling events began to unfold at this point.

Mike had reached the maximum size he could peacefully take and decided to expand his domain at the expense of his neighbours. He first attacked the Finn, leading to several battles in the Aegean Sea, where the Galatian fleet proved its superiority. This resulted in the first invasion of Macedonia. The Finn managed to retreat and counterattack, reclaiming their province. Mike couldn't stop it because he was simultaneously attacked from the south by Alasdair. In a bloody war, both forces were pushed from one province to another, leaving them greatly weakened. This created an opportunity for the Western domains to take advantage of their weakened state.

Following his central position, Peter took the initiative to attack first. He launched a second invasion of Macedonia and won a major battle, defeating Finn's forces and removing him from the game. I had planned to conquer Crete, but we ran out of time. The outcome of the game was still undecided, but one of the Western factions would emerge as the winner. I believe Tim would win the game because he successfully built the largest army and had a well-developed economy.

It was a great game and we should do it again someday. There will be a brief pause in blog updates with game reports unless I manage to play a Sunday game. This is because for the next two weeks, due to other events, the games will be moved from Thursday to Tuesday. Unfortunately, I work on Tuesdays and won't be able to participate in any game. However, I plan to use this time to paint a few new figures, so be sure to check the blog now and then.

The last game of 2022: Conquest of the Empire.

Happy New Year to everyone! Before I'll summarize the past year, few posts about the last of 2022. Today is the last game we had. Mike brought a board game called Conquest of the Empire. It is similar to the Risk game with more advantage rules but very simple to pick up during the evening.

Szczęśliwego nowego roku wszystkim! Zanim przejdę do podsumowań, kilka ostatków z poprzedniego roku. Dziś ostatnia gra. Mike przyniósł do klubu planszówkę, zatytułowaną Conquest of the Empire. Jest to gra przypominająca Risk, ale z dużo bardziej rozwiniętymi zasadami, jednak na tyle prostymi, by móc je opanować w ciągu jednego wieczora.

As you can see from the picture above, which empire we were going to conquest. It is, of course, the Roman Empire! We had four players: Alisdair (starting in Numidia), Campbell (in Spain), Mike (in Mesopotamia) and me (starting in Macedonia), I quickly conquered Italia, the whole of Greece, Dalmatia and part of Asia Minor. However, I met my fate and again I was in the middle of the board. It started with the war against Mike, who took Crete and threatened me with a landing in Grece. However, it wasn't there where my problems started. In the meantime, Campbell and Alasdair build their forces and silently signed the alliance. Then Alasdair with a surprise attack landed his forces in Italy and took my main commander. I had to stop the war against Mike, withdraw from Asia and strengthen my western borders. I also build a lot of roads, so my troops easily could move from one side of my land to the other. That helped me to fight against Alasdair, who landed in Macedonia for a short period of time occupied it. I managed to liberate it and destroy Alasdair's army, but it cost me a lot of money. I was unable to rebuild my troops as the inflation started! I had simply not enough income. In the meantime, Mike invaded Egypt and went to Numidia, where his troops were beaten by Alasdair. Then Campbell started an invasion against me. In a few battles, he destroyed my army and conquered my belongings. We had to finish the game at that moment with Campbell being the strongest part of the game.

Jak zapewne domyśliliście się z powyższego obrazka jakie to imperium zamierzaliśmy podbić. Oczywiście rzymskie! W grze uczestniczyło 4 graczy: Alasdair (startował w Numidii), Campbell (w Hiszpanii), Mike (w Mezopotamii) i ja (w Macedonii). Udało mi się szybko opanować Italię, całą Grecję. Dalmację i Azję Mniejszą. Jednak szybko spotkałem się z moim przekleństwem i znów znalazłem się w środku pola walki. Zaczęło się od wojny z Mike'm, który zajął Kretę i zagrażał mi lądowaniem w Grecji. Jednak to nie tam zaczęły się moje problemy. W międzyczasie, Campbell i Alasdair rozbudowywali swoje siły i po cichu zawarli sojusz. Wtedy Alasdair niespodziewanym atakiem zajął Italię, gdzie pochwycił mojego głównego dowódcę. Musiałem zakończyć wojnę z Mike'm, wycofać się z Azji i wzmocnić moje zachodnie granice. Zbudowałem też dobrą sieć dróg, co pozwoliło mi szybko przemieszczać oddziały z jednego końca na drugi moich włości. To pomogło mi w walce z Alasdairem, który wylądował w Macedonii i na krótko ją okupował. Udało mi się ją wyzwolić i zniszczyć armię Alasdaira, ale ogołociło to mój skarbiec. Nie byłem w stanie odbudować mojej armii, ponieważ zaczęła się inflacja! Nie miałem odpowiedniego przychodu. W międzyczasie Mike najechał Egipt i doszedł do Numidii, gdzie jego wojska zostały pokonane przez Alasdaira. Wtedy Campbell rozpoczął inwazję na moje terytorium. W kilku bitwach rozgromił moją armię i zajął moje posiadłości. W tym momencie musieliśmy zakończyć naszą grę. Campbell został zwycięzcą, ponieważ był w tym momencie najsilniejszą stroną w grze.
