Rome vs Celts. Rzym przeciw Celtom.

I have had my Polybian Roman army for some time. However, despite one game, played online, during the pandemic at my home, it has never been in our club at full strength. The best opportunity came last Sunday. Campbell offered the To The Strongest! game and I agreed. Then I asked what is the strongest army he can file and compared it with my Romans. If Campbell do some changes, he can put an army with the same point value as mine! Here we go, the battle for around 260 pts. each.

Mam już swoją armię Rzymu z czasów Polibiusza od jakiegoś czasu. Jednak nie licząc jednej gry, rozegranej online, podczas pandemii w moim domu, to nigdy nie zagościła w całej swej sile w naszym klubie. Najlepsza ku temu okazja pojawiła się w ostatnią niedzielę. Campbell zaproponował grę w To the Strongest! i ja się zgodziłem. Wtedy zapytałem się go, jaką najsilniejszą armię jest on w stanie wystawić i porównałem to z moimi Rzymianami. Jeśli Campbell dokonałby pewnych zmian, mógł wystawić zbliżoną punktowo armię do mojej! Tak więc mieliśmy grę na około 260 pkt po każdej ze stron.

2. The game. Gra.

Romans have one serious weakness in that game, the flanks. Campbell, knowing about it very well attacked them as the first. Roman cavalry and Velites, were no match for Celtic cavalry and chariots and soon, after a fierce fight, I had no flanks and no victory medals left! However, we decided to continue the game. After destroying my flanks, the main forces clashed in a fight. I managed to break through the Celtic lines but was unable to protect my rear. I lost my camp, which finished the game. Roma victa est!

Rzymianie mają jedną zasadniczą słabą stronę w tej grze, ich flanki. Campbell wiedząc o tym doskonale, tam skoncentrował swoje ataki. Rzymska kawaleria nie jest równorzędnym przeciwnikiem dla celtyckiej kawalerii i rydwanów i wkrótce, po zażartej walce, nie miałem już flanek i monet w skarbcu! Jednakże postanowiliśmy kontynuować grę. Po zniszczeniu moich flanek, główne siły przystąpiły do walki. Udało mi się przerwać linię obrony Celtów, ale nie byłem w stanie ochronić moich tyłów. Straciłem swój obóz, co zakończyło grę. Roma victa est!

Res ad triarios venit!

Our last game in January was the club's Sunday clash with 6 players participating. The rules were To the Strongest. Every player fielded their ancient army, 130 pts. strong. It was Rome versus Gallo-Greek alliance.

Nasza ostatnia gra styczniowa, była niedzielnym spotkaniem klubowym z udziałem 6 graczy. Użyliśmy zasad To the Strongest. Każdy gracz wystawił swoją armię na 130 pkt. Był to pojedynek Rzymu z galogreckim sojuszem.

2. The game. Gra.

The Alliance forces clashed with Romans on the whole front. The first scratch in Roman lines was made against my cavalry. To be honest I have no idea for these men on horses and how to lead them to the battle. They always died first and are the reason for my future problems... Peter destroyed them and opened my flank. That forced me to perform an even much aggressive attack against Peter's phalangs. I managed to disorganize them, but Peter withdrew them and in that way saved his troops.

Siły Sojuszu starły się z Rzymianami na całym froncie. Pierwsza rysa w rzymskich liniach została wykonana przez moją kawalerię. Tak prawdę powiedziawszy nie mam na nich pomysłu, jak ich prowadzić w bitwie. Zawsze giną w walce jako pierwsi i są później powodem moich dalszych problemów... Peter zniszczył ich i w ten sposób otworzył moją flankę. To zmusiło mnie do jeszcze bardziej agresywnego ataku na falangi Petera. Udało mi się je zdezorganizować, ale Peterowi udało się je wycofać i w ten sposób ocalił swoje oddziały.

Jack and John also had a bad time. Campbell beat Jacks legion and Michael managed to outflank John and also beat him. We started losing money very quickly. Finally, we all lost them all. Then we got extra 5 coins, but those were lost very quickly. Roman forces were broken and lost their game. The fight was so fierce that it took my lines to exchange to the Triarii. I don't remember if that ever happened to me before...

Jack i John również przeżywali swoje złe czasy. Campbell pobił legiony Jacka a Michaelowi udało się oskrzydlić Johna i również go pobić. Zaczęliśmy tracić nasze monety bardzo szybko. Ostatecznie straciliśmy je wszystkie. Wtedy dostaliśmy dodatkowe 5 monet, ale je też straciliśmy. Rzymskie siły były złamane i przegrały grę. Walka była tak zacięta, że moje linie wymieniły się aż do triarii. Nie pamiętam by coś takiego wcześniej mi się przydarzyło...
