The game at the beginning was divided into two combats. Me against Michael and Alasdair, and the rest of the boys. I attacked both German planes and I managed to fly through them but get caught by Michael and tailed by him. I had to dive down and in that way, I managed to escape from incoming fate. I also damaged the wing controls, which put me out of action for a while. In the meantime, Peter was shot down by Tim, and then Tim's second plane shoot down David. David had to go home and Peter took control of one of Tim's planes. Then John shot down Alasdair (his plane exploded). That was the time when I joined the action. All planes were on the edge of existence at that moment. Harvesting started then. First John took off Peter, then Tim shot down my plane and then John revenged me and shot down Tim. Only Michael and John left. Both attacked and... John get shot down. German victory!

Gra z początku podzieliła się na dwa osobne starcia. Ja przeciw Michaelowi i Alasdairowi oraz reszta chłopaków. Zaatakowałem oba samoloty niemieckie i udało mi się przelecieć między nimi, jednak zostałem złapany przez Michaela, który dostał się mi na ogon. Musiałem pikować w dół i w ten sposób udało mi się uciec. W tej walce uszkodziłem sterowniki i zostałem wyłączony z akcji na pewien czas. W międzyczasie Peter został zestrzelony przez Tima, drugi samolot Tima zestrzelił Davida. David musiał wracać do domu, a Peter przejął jeden z samolotów Tima. Wtedy John zestrzelił Alasdaira (jego samolot eksplodował). Wtedy dołączyłem do akcji. Wszystkie samoloty w tym momencie były już porządnie zniszczone. Dożynki się zaczęły. Wpierw John zestrzelił Petera, potem Tim zestrzelił mój samolot, następnie zostałem pomszczony przez Johna i zestrzelił on Tima. Na placu boju pozostali więc Michael i John. Obaj natarli na siebie i... John został zestrzelony. Niemieckie zwycięstwo!

'Bukowski' Armoured Car. Samochód pancerny "Bukowski"

Today new model I made for my Poland 1920 project. It is a 'Bukowski' armoured car. The model came from Scheltrum Miniatures. This is their third and the last Polish armoured car from their offer. The other cars ("Pilsudski Tank' and 'Kresowiak') are quite historically accurate, but this one is by far the least and has some serious mistakes. But before I describe them, a brief history of the car.

Dziś nowy model do mojego projektu Polska 1920. Jest to samochód pancerny "Bukowski". Model pochodzi z oferty Scheltrum Miniatures. Jest to ich trzeci i ostatni polski samochód pancerny, jaki mają w swojej ofercie. Pozostałe samochody ("Tank Piłsudskiego" i "Kresowiak") są dość wierne ich historycznym pierwowzorom, ale ten zawiera kilka dość poważnych błędów. Zanim je jednak opiszę krótka historia samochodu.

The car was built in the summer of 1920 in the Car Repair Workshops of the Lviv General District Command, under the supervision of the chief of the car forces Major Włodzimierz Ossoria-Bukowski (the car was named after this commander). The car was built on the chassis of the Packard 38 model. As the armour, they used armour plates for machine guns from old Austro-Hungarian supplies (there was a large warehouse in Lviv). The car was ready in July 1920 and has been used against Budonnyj Horse Army in the battles of Busk (19.08.1920), Zadviria (20 - 21.08.1920), Pykulovychi and Borshchovychi (23.08.1920), where it was damaged and withdraw to Lviv. After the war, in 1921, it was in the 6th Motor Division. Further fate unknown.

Samochód został zbudowany latem 1920 w w Warsztatach Naprawy Samochodów Dowództwa Okręgu Generalnego Lwów pod nadzorem szefa wojsk samochodowych majora Włodzimierza Ossorii-Bukowskiego (jego imieniem został nazwany samochód). Samochód zbudowano na podwoziu Packarda model 38. Jako opancerzenia użyto osłony pancerne do karabinów maszynowych wykorzystywanych przez armię austro-węgierską (we Lwowie znajdował się ich duży magazyn). Samochód był gotowy do akcji w lipcu 1920 roku i został użyty w walkach przeciw konnej armii Budionnego. w bitwach pod Buskiem (19.08.1920), Zadwórzem (20-21.08.1920), Pikułowice i Barszczowiec (23.08.1920), gdzie został uszkodzony i następnie wycofany do Lwowa. Po wojnie znajdował się w składzie 6. Dywizjonu Samochodowego.  Późniejszy los nieznany.

The model has a few mistakes. The first is that the surface of the model is smooth. In fact, armour plates were used to protect it. The surface should therefore consist of a number of small rectangles. To fix this, I carved them into the model. The other thing is the back door. The model has a single door, which I had to remove and I glued a double door made of plastic. The third mistake is the shape of the back of the car. According to the photos, it is straight, in the model it is slightly inclined. I did not remove this element, I decided that there is no point in repairing it. The fourth is the shape of the front wheels. They should be covered (this can also be easily fixed by glueing covers, I will do that later). The final error is what looks like a headlight from the front. This item is missing. I'll probably get it in the future. Despite these errors, the model will be a great addition to my collection.

Model posiada kilka błędów. Pierwszym jest gładka powierzchnia modelu. W rzeczywistości użyto do jego ochrony płyty pancerne. Powierzchnia powinna więc składać się z pewnej ilości małych prostokątów. Aby to naprawić wyryłem je w modelu. Drugą rzeczą są drzwi z tyłu. Model posiada pojedyncze drzwi, te musiałem usunąć i z plastiku dokleiłem drzwi podwójne. Trzeci błąd, to kształt tyłu samochodu. Według zdjęć jest on prosty, w modelu jest lekko nachylony. Tego elementu nie usuwałem, uznałem, ze nie ma sensu tego poprawiać. Czwarty, to kształt przednich kół. Powinny być osłonięte (to można też łatwo naprawić, przez doklejenie osłon, ja to zrobię w terminie późniejszym). Ostatnim błędem jest coś, co wygląda na reflektor z przodu. Brak tego elementu. Ja go pewnie w przyszłości dorobię. Pomimo tych błędów, model będzie znakomitym uzupełnieniem mojej kolekcji. 

Ułans in Saxon service. Ułani na żołdzie saskim.

Seven Years War Saxons again. This time my first cavalries. I cannot start differently than from Ułans in Saxon Service. During the war, there were 2 regiments (pulks): the Red (Graf Renard) and the Blue (Graf Rudnicki). To do them I decided to use 2 known sources of the figures presenting the ułans of that period. The first is the Crann Tara Miniatures and the second is Eureka Miniatures. This time I wasn't happy with 2 things. The first is my mistake and the second is the poor casting quality. About my mistake, I miscalculated the order and finished with 22 figures, instead of 24 (one unit should be 12 figures, but it is 10 instead). However, that will be corrected, when I will do another order. The second is the problem with horses from Crann Tara. As the figures were first class as always, I cannot tell the same about the horses, at least some of them. Their legs were too thin and when I put a rider on them, their legs simply broke. I managed to fix one horse but was unable to do it with the other one (luckily I had the spare one). I'm also not convinced of the rest of them. I decided to do the Red pulk from Crann Tara figures and the Blue from Eureka figures with an officer and trumpeter from Crann Tara (as Eureka doesn't make ones). The flags are from ADHOC and the bases are from Warbases. Pennants on lances are made by myself. I took the pattern from Uniformes de l'Electorat de Saxe (1734, 1738) from Collection Gustave de Ridder (Bibliotheque Nationale de France) and made those in appropriate colours for the pulks. When I painted the figures, I also took that reference, with one change (possibly ahistorical). I made their hats in pulks colours instead white (I think it looks better).

Ponownie Sasi z wojny siedmioletniej. Tym razem pierwsze oddziały kawalerii. Nie mogłem zacząć inaczej, jak od ułanów na żołdzie saskim. Podczas wojny były dwa takie pułki: Czerwony (Graf Renard) i Niebieski (Graf Rudnicki). By je zrobić użyłem dwóch znanych mi wzorów figurek ułanów z tego okresu: Crann Tara Miniatures i Eureka Miniatures. Tym razem zawiodłem się na dwóch rzeczach. Pierwsza z nich to moja wina a druga to słaba jakość odlewów. Co do mojego błędu, to zamiast 24 figurek zamówiłem tylko 22 (źle policzyłem). Teraz oddziały mają po 10 figurek, a powinny 12. Ten błąd naprawię przy kolejnym zamówieniu. Drugi to jakość koni z Crann Tary. Figurki, jak zawsze są pierwsza klasa, jednak nie mogę tego powiedzieć o ich koniach, a przynajmniej o części z nich. Ich nogi są zbyt cienkie i kiedy posadziłem na nich jeźdźców, ich nogi po prostu się złamały. Udało mi się naprawić jednego konia, z drugim nie dałem już rady (na szczęście miałem zapasowe figurki). Co do reszty koni, to też nie jestem ich za bardzo pewien. Z figurek Crann Tary zrobiłem Czerwony pułk a Niebieski z Eureki i Crann Tary (oficer i trębacz, Eureka takich nie robi). Flagi są z ADHOC a podstawki z Warbases. Proporczyki na lancach są mojego autorstwa. Jako wzór użyłem obrazku z Uniformes de l'Electorat de Saxe (1734, 1738) z kolekcji  Gustave de Ridder (Bibliotheque Nationale de France) i zrobiłem je w odpowiednich kolorach dla pułków. Ten sam wzór posłużył mi gdy malowałem figurki z jedną zmianą (najprawdopodobniej ahistoryczną). Ich czapy zrobiłem w kolorach pułków, a nie białych jak w oryginale (bardziej mi się podobają). 

Tsushima once more again. I jeszcze raz Cuszima.

This time naval, Russo-Japanese War, 1905. Tim brought his vessels and set up the scenario. The winner would be the side, that will sink more ships. We used the Tsushima rules again.

Tym razem na morzu, wojna rosyjsko-japońska, 1905 rok. Tim przyniósł swoją kolekcję okrętów i wymyślił scenariusz. Zwycięzcą będzie ten, kto zatopi więcej okrętów. Do gry użyliśmy ponownie zasad Tsushima.

2. The Game. Gra.

Russians decided to use my usual plan. Get them between both squadrons and fire at them from both sides. That's all about the plan. Japanese commanders predicted that and used the same plan. We had to change it and we decided to separate both Japanese divisions and destroy the light vessels and avoid the heavy battleships. It worked for some time... It started with heavy guns. Both sides had some hits, but mostly those were the secondary guns and plenty of bouncing hits. Finally, Japanese ships hit the Russians very badly. One of the hits penetrate Knyaz Suvorow's hull and finished with a fatal explosion. The ship was lost, but still afloat. Then the Japanese light ships shortened the distance and fired their torpedoes. From all fired only one hit the ship. It was Borodino. Her engine room was damaged. It was very quickly repaired but the situation of the Russian battleships was very serious. My battleships started exchanging fire with Japanese light cruisers. It finished with the Oryol bridge destroyed (till the end of the game I did not repair it). That was the Japanese luck finished. Battleships' guns destroyed 3 destroyers (one of them was rammed by Imperator Alexandr III) and very badly damaged Japanese light cruisers. Then the Russian light ships entered the fight. The last destroyer has been destroyed, the same as the light cruiser Nitaka. That finished the game. More ships were destroyed by Russians, however, their situation was very bad, especially as the main Japanese forces shortened the distance. But the game was over Japanese lost 4 ships, the Russians none (Kniaz Suvorov was still afloat!).

Rosjanie zdecydowali się użyć mój tradycyjny plan. Wpuścić wroga pomiędzy dwie eskadry i zniszczyć ich ogniem z dwóch stron. To tyle co do planu. Japońscy dowódcy wpadli na ten sam pomysł. Rosjanie zdecydowali się użyć mój tradycyjny plan. Wpuścić wroga pomiędzy dwie eskadry i zniszczyć ich ogniem z dwóch stron. To tyle co do planu. Japońscy dowódcy wpadli na ten sam pomysł. Musieliśmy go zmienić i postanowiliśmy rozdzielić japońskie siły i zniszczyć lekkie jednostki, przy czym unikać japońskich sił głównych. To działało przez pewien czas... Zaczęło się od wymiany ognia z ciężkich dział. Obie strony zaliczyły po kilka trafień, jednak były to głównie uszkodzenia uzbrojenia drugiej linii albo odbijające się od kadłubów. W końcu Japończycy uzyskali trafienie, które przebiło kadłub rosyjskiego okrętu. Był to Kniaź Suworow i skończyło się to fatalną eksplozją. Okręt był stracony, jednak wciąż utrzymywał się na powierzchni. Wtedy lekkie okręty japońskie skróciły dystans i odpaliły swoje torpedy. Ze wszystkich tylko jedna trafiła cel. Był to Borodino. Uszkodzeniu uległa maszynownia, ale udało się ją bardzo szybko naprawić. Sytuacja rosyjskich pancerników stawała się bardzo poważna. Moje pancerniki rozpoczęły wymianę ognia z japońskimi krążownikami, w jej wyniku trafiony został mostek na Oriołu (tego uszkodzenia nie udało mi się naprawić do końca gry). Na tym skończyło się japońskie szczęście. Pancernikom udało się zatopić trzy niszczyciele (jeden z nich został staranowany przez Imperatora Aleksandra III) i poważnie uszkodzić japońskie krążowniki. Wtedy do akcji dołączyły lekkie siły rosyjskie. Ostatni japoński niszczyciel zatonął, oraz krążownik Nitaka. To skończyło grę. Rosjanie zatopili więcej okrętów, jednak ich sytuacja była nie do pozazdroszczenia, ponieważ zbliżały się właśnie główne siły japońskie. Jednak gra się zakończyła i Japończycy stracili 4 okręty, natomiast Rosjanie 0 (Kniaź Suworow wciąż utrzymywał się na powierzchni!).

Everything on the table! Wszystko na stół!

The game was played last Thursday. Initially, it should be something different, however, some participants had to postpone the game and make some money. Therefore some others had to find something else. After some ideas, I suggested, my Commonwealth army in 28mm was never on the table and I prepared a list for them for the For King and Parliament rules. So we did my whole collection against Campbell's English Civil War. It was Epic! After we deployed figures on the table, we noticed, that Campbell outnumbered me almost 3 to 1, so we decided to give all Poles a veteran status. That made forces more or less equal.

Gra rozegrana w poprzedni czwartek. Początkowo miało to być coś innego, ale niektórzy jej uczestnicy musieli przełożyć grę i zająć się zarabianiem pieniędzy. Dlatego inny musieli wymyślić coś innego. Po kilku pomysłach, zasugerowałem, że moja armia Rzeczpospolitej w skali 28mm nigdy w całości nie była na stole. Do tej armii przygotowałem listę do zasad For King and Parliament. W ten sposób cała moja kolekcja stanęła naprzeciw całej Campbellowej kolekcji do Angielskiej Wojny Domowej. Widok epicki! Po ustawieniu figurek, okazało się, że Campbell ma nade mną przewagę prawie 3 do 1, więc wszystkie moje jednostki otrzymały status weterana. To sprawiło, że siły były prawie wyrównane.

2. The game. Gra.

Commonwealth forces started in 3 divisions: Lithuanians under Dave, Poles under Tim and infantry under my command. British put their cavalries on flanks as well, so it all started with cavalry battles. Lithuanians put their Hussars on the front and charged. Soon there was no enemy cavalry on their flank, however, after so successful charge, Lithuanian hussars find themselves exposed to musket fire and get destroyed. After that Dave had to go home and I took full control of the Lithuanians. 

Siły Rzeczpospolitej zaczęły w trzech dywizjach: Litwini pod dowództwem Davea, Polacy pod komendą Tima i piechota, dowodzona przeze mnie. Brytyjczycy również ustawili swoją kawalerię na flankach, więc zaczęło się od starcia kawalerii. Litwini ustawili swoją husarię na przodzie i zaatakowali. Wkrótce na ich flance nie było już wrogiej kawalerii, jednak po udanej szarży znaleźli się nieosłonięci naprzeciw ognia muszkietów i zostali zniszczeni. Po tym Dave musiał opuścić grę i całkowitą kontrolę nad Litwinami przejąłem ja.

Poles were not as successful as their Lithuanian brothers. They managed to push back the British cavalry but did not destroy them completely. However, they managed to keep the status quo in that part of the table.

Polacy nie byli tak skuteczni, jak ich litewscy bracia. UDało im się odepchnąć brytyjską kawalerię, jednak nie zniszczyli jej kompletnie. Jednak udało im się zachować status quo w tej części stołu.

My biggest fears were about our centre. My infantry was exposed to artillery fire, however, those were very ineffective. The British infantry moved forward and attacked my units. I received the assault and managed to survive (to my very surprise). My dragoons managed to take control over the two hedges in the table centre and kept them till the end of the game. Till the end of the game, no one was able to gain the advantage here.

Moje największe obawy wzbudzało nasze centrum. Moje piechota była wystawiona na ostrzał artyleryjski, jednak ten okazał się bardzo nieskuteczny. Wtedy brytyjska piechota ruszyła do ataku na moje jednostki. Przyjąłem ich szturm i go wytrzymałem (ku mojemu wielkiemu zdziwieniu). Moi dragonom udało się zająć oba zagajniki z żywopłotami w centrum pola i utrzymali je do końca gry. Do końća gry nikt też nie zdobył tu wyraźnej przewagi.

The last word belonged to Lithuanians. After their magnificent charge, they stopped advantage and the fight moved on the hedges on their side of the table. British dragoons get into and managed to survive and find themselves on the back of the Lithuanians. However, their infantry gets exposed to my attack. First, their Forlon Hope gets destroyed and then one of the Pike and Shotte formations gets charged on their flank and gets destroyed. After that, both sides withdraw and were not able to move forward. Overall British suffered the biggest casualties, but Commonwealth was not able to break through enemy lines, so we decided that the draw is the best outcome of the game. 

Ostatnie słowo należało do Litwinów. Po ich wspaniałej szarży, zatrzymali się i walka przeniosła się do krzaków po ich stronie stołu. Brytyjscy dragoni weszli tam, udało im się przeżyć i w końcu znaleźć się na tyłach Litwinów. Jednak wtedy ich piechota została wystawiona na atak. Wpierw padł ich Forlon Hope a potem wyszedł atak na flankę jednego z oddziałów Pike and Shotte, co doprowadziło do jego zniszczenia. Po tym obie strony wycofały się i nie były w stanie ruszyć do przodu. Ogólnie Brytyjczycy ponieśli większe straty, jednak siły Rzeczpospolitej nie były w stanie dokonać przełamania wrogich linii, dlatego ogłoszono zakończenie gry remisem.
