2023/2024

Our little tradition continues. Usually, the second post of the new year summarises the past year and talks about the plans for the new. Before that, here are the objectives I had for the previous:

The most important thing, that happened to me last year was a new family member. Here is my new cat. His name is Adaś. He is right now 7 months old. He is very active and forced me to change the way I keep my figures during the painting. He loves to chew my figures, brushes, paint bottles etc.

1. 2023

1.1. Blog.

Last year I posted 61 times (63 in 2022) and had 130 626 visits (94 233 in 2022). I have 117 followers (116 in 2022). The blog is still growing, which is good. This year I had most visits from the United States, Ireland and the UK. Thank you very much, Guys! The most popular posts were:

1.2. Figures and Models.

This year was concentrated mostly on 28mm with two main subjects: 7YW Saxony and Duchy of Warsaw. It was the year when I finally did my first 3D-printed figures. Altogether it was 295 elements (450 last year). Here are some details:

1.3. Games.

I had 62 games (the same as last year) of which I competed in 61 won 27 and drew 8 of them. I have umpired 11 games, had my scenario for 10, used my figures and models in 21 and my terrains in 5 of them. We had 2 games in 54mm, 22 in 28mm, 3 in 20mm, 5 in 15mm, 4 in 10mm, 9 naval, 15 air and 2 board games. I am especially happy with the return of the air games. We used 29 sets. The most popular were: Wings of Glory (11 games), Black Powder (6 games) and Nimitz and Bloody Red Skies (5 games each). The most popular periods were: 2WW (18 games), 1WW (11 games) and 19th century (1815-1914 - 10 games).

1.4. Events, museums and shows.

I was lucky to take part in two shows: Claymore in Edinburgh and Carronade in Falkirk. In the first one, I had the privilege of being the judge. It was a fascinating experience. Health problems during the year allowed me to go on holiday at the end of the year and at the beginning of the year. Firstly I went north and finally visited the Battle of Culloden museum. The second was Paris again and of course the Musée de l’Armée! Expect a special post about those two places.

2. 2024.

2.1. Blog.

As possibly you all have noticed I decided for one significant change to my blog. It will be only written in English. I usually lack time for blogging, so writing one post instead technically twice should save me time. Of course, sometimes posts will be in Polish, but that depends on the situation. In the coming year, I should have a similar number of posts, as in previous years. I owe you some book reviews, mentioned relations from the museums etc. At the end of January, I will have some simple surgery and that could take me off blogging (possibly) and definitely off gaming, so a small gap is expected. Some army pages need to be updated.

2.2 Figures and models.

Carry on with the stuff I have in my drawer of shame. I started with some officers for my Duchy of Warsaw. That subject will continue with the 5th Infantry Regiment, followed by the 4th. After that Sudan with a lot of Mahdists and British troops. Next should be some ships and planes on a very small scale. I have to remember to finish my 303rd, for Bllody Red Skies as well. After that, we will see.

2.3. Games.

I think a similar number of games as in the previous year. Variety of systems, maybe something new. We will see.

2.4. Events, museums and shows.

Nothing is planned as yet. I need a confirmation of the holiday for a big, 2 days game in June. I will try to take part in Carronade and Claymore. Maybe Salute, as it looks very interesting. No holiday destination has been chosen as yet.

First of all: Happy New Year to everyone! It is becoming a tradition, that my first post in the new year is about the figures I managed to paint in December past year. It's no different this time. I try to be consistent and stick to one project until I finish it. This time it is 28mm Duchy of Warsaw. You will see a variety of producers this time, as I decided to try them all. I have already written about some of them, but this time there will be two new ones. I will be sure to share my comments on this matter. In this post, you will see figures from Eagle Miniatures, Front Rank, Murawski Miniatures and Polkowski Miniatures. All used bases are from Warbases.

Po pierwsze: Szczęśliwego Nowego Roku dla wszystkich! Staje się już tradycją, że mój pierwszy post w nowym roku będzie dotyczył figurek, które udało mi się pomalować w grudniu ubiegłego roku. Nie inaczej jest i tym razem. Staram się być konsekwentny i trzymać się jednego projektu, aż go skończę. Tym razem jest to Księstwo Warszawskie w skali 28mm. Zobaczysz różnych producentów, ponieważ postanowiłem wypróbować ich wszystkich. O niektórych z nich już pisałem, ale tym razem pojawią się dwóch nowych. Na pewno podzielę się swoimi spostrzeżeniami w tej kwestii. W tym poście zobaczycie figurki od Eagle Miniatures, Front Rank, Murawski Miniatures i Polkowski Miniatures. Wszystkie użyte podstawki są produkcji Warbases.

COMMANDERS. DOWÓDCY.

Two commanders. One for a Division and the second for Cavalry Brigade. All figures are from Murawski Miniatures. The divisional consists figure of Prince Poniatowski, which I painted as a Cavalry General (yes, I'm planning a Cavalry Division). His ADC is painted as a Guide. The other base is for Cavalry Brigade General.

Dwóch dowódców. Jeden dla dywizji a drugi dla brygady kawalerii. Wszystkie figurki od Murawski Miniatures. Podstawka dywizyjna zawiera model Poniatowskiego, którego pomalowałem jako generała kawalerii (tak, planuję wystawić dywizję kawalerii) oraz Gida jako jego adiutanta. Druga podstawka będzie pełniła funkcję generała brygady kawalerii.

CHASSEURS. STRZELCY KONNI.

All figures are Front Rank. This time other regiments: 4th and 5th. This is how I end the topic of Chasseurs. Now I have all of them issued by the Duchy of Warsaw. There was one more regiment, the 21st, but the organization ended in a fiasco (only one squadron was assembled, most of it without horses), which later acted as uhlans.

Był jeszcze jeden pułk 21., ale oraganizacja tego zakończyła się fiaskem (udało się skompletować jedynie jeden szwadron, do tego w większości bez koni), który i tak później działał jako ułani.

UHLANS. UŁANI.

Crème de la crème of the Duchy of Warsaw army. At least in my opinion. Uhlans! A long time ago I painted some elite companies for my uhlans. I did it for the 2nd, 3rd and 6th regiments. However, I did not paint the rest of the units (3rd and 6th) so I was left with a tiny Uhlan regiment. Until today. I decided to expand them to full size (12 figures). I used Front Rank and Polkowski Miniatures. The last ones are 3D prints, prepared for me by Tomek Rejf (highly recommended). I used two sets of them, one in summer uniforms and the second in coats, which I used to create the 7th regiment. Now I have 4 Uhlans regiments!

Crème de la crème armii Księstwa Warszawskiego, przynajmniej w mojej opinii, ułani! Dawno temu pomalowałem sobie wyborcze kompanie dla 2., 3. i 6. pułku ułanów. Jednakże, nie pomalowałem wtedy reszty oddziałów (3. i 6.), w związku z czym pozostał mi mały oddział ułanów. Do dzisiaj. Zdecydowałem się je rozszerzyć do pełnego rozmiaru (12 figurek). W tym celu użyłem modeli od Front Rank i Polkowski Miniatures. Ci drudzy to wydruki 3D, które zostały dla mnie przygotowane przez Tomka Rejfa (bardzo polecam!). Użyłem tu dwóch zestawów, jeden w letnich mundurach i drugi w płaszczach. Ten drugi posłużył mi do wykonania 7. pułu ułanów. Mam więc teraz 4 pułki ułanów!

GUNS. DZIAŁA.

This whole thing started during the last Claymore. As I passed by the Eagle Figures stand, I noticed their Duchy of Warsaw series. I chose their artillery as a test. The set included two howitzers and eight artillerymen. When I looked at their figures, it turned out that they were not suitable for operating field guns. Also, they were no good for for horse artillery (and that was probably the assumption, with Czapka on their heads), due to bad shoes. However, when I looked at them closely, it turned out that they would be perfect for the regimental artillery! Only the guns were bad. I then made a large order from Front Rank and gave them 3-pounder Austrian guns. It should have been Prussian, but in 1809 the Polish army captured some such guns and theoretically, they could have been used by the Poles in 1812 (in fact, they were lying in warehouses). Of course, now the howitzers needed crewmen and I also gave them Front Rank models, and in order not to order more guns later, I ordered two more 6-pounder infantry guns, two horse artillery guns and two 12-pounder guns. It's a lot, but it will definitely be useful in upcoming games.

Cała sprawa zaczęła się podczas ostatniego Claymore. Kiedy przechodziłem obok stoiska Eagle Figures, zwróciłem uwagę ich serii Księstwa Warszawskiego. Na próbę wybrałem ich artylerię. W zestawie były dwie haubice i ośmiu artylerzystów. Gdy przyjrzałem się ich figurkom, okazało się, że nie pasują oni do obsługi dział polowych. Do konnej artylerii również (a takie pewnie było założenie, rogatywka na głowach), ze względu na złe buty. Jednak gdy im się przyjrzałem dokładnie okazało się , że świetnie nadadzą się na artylerię pułową! Tylk, że działa były złe. Zrobiłem wtedy duże zamówienie od Front Rank i dałem im 3 funtowe działa austriackie. Powinny być pruskie, jednak w 1809 polska armia zdobyła trochę takich dział i teoretycznie mogły być one użyte przez Polaków w 1812 (w rzeczywistości przeleżały one w magazynach). Oczywiście teraz haubice potrzebowały załogantów i tych dałem również od Front Rank, a żeby nie zamiawiać później kolejnych dział to zamówiłem sobie jeszcze dwa działa piechoty 6 funtowe, dwa działa artylerii konnej i dwa działa 12 funtowe. Sporo tego, ale na pewno przyda się w nadchodzących grach.

Now I will continue painting troops for the Duchy of Warsaw. First I have a few officers and then I will focus on the infantry. I am planning the 4th, 5th and, if I have enough figures, the 7th infantry regiment. Traditionally, each team will have 2 battalions and Voltigeurs. This year we can expect new sets from the Perry brothers: infantry and Uhlans! So I guess we won't exhaust this topic this year...

Teraz dalej będę malował oddziały dla Księstwa Warszawskiego. W pierwszej kolejności mam kilku oficerów a następnie skupię się na piechocie. W planach 4., 5., i jeżeli wystarczy mi figurek to i 7. pułk piechoty. Tradycyjnie każdy będzie miał po 2 bataliony i Woltyżerów. W tym roku możemy się spodziewać nowych zestawów od braci Perrych: piechoty i ułanów! Tematu więc nie wyczerpiemy chyba w tym roku...
