Battle of Shubra Khit, Egypt, Bastille Day 1798, Egypt, Bastille Day 1798

Last game in SESWC was very big Napoleonic game in 28mm with Black Powder rules. We used the scenario put on base of the real battle of Shabura Khit (13th July 1798). We used Chris Henry's figures. In the game the French forces under command of young general Napoleon Bonaparte (Donald Adamson, Michael, Angus Konstam and myself) had to capture the Shubra Khit village, whilst the Ottoman and Mamluk forces (Chris, Colin Jack and Campbell Hardie) had to couse the significant casualties on the opponets. Bill Gilchrist umpired the game.
Ostatnio w SESWC rozegraliśmy dużą grę napoleońską w skali 28mm z użyciem zasad Black Powder. Użyliśmy scenariusza opartego luźno na bitwie o Shabura Khit (Chobrakhitt) 13 Lipca 1798 roku. Uzylismy figurek należących do Chrisa Henry'ego. W tej grze siły francuskie pod dowództwem młodego generała Napoleona Banapartego (Donald Adamson, Michael, Angus Konstam i ja) mieli za zadanie zająć wioskę Shubra Khit, natomiast siły Ottomańskie i Mameluków (Chris, Colin Jack i Campbell Hardie) miały zadać jak największe straty siłom francuskim. Bitwę prowadził Bill Gilchrist.
The battlefield. Pole bitwy.

The Battle.
Bitwa.

French started the battle with the quick assault of the village under the personal command of Bonaparte.
The village was defending by Albanian troops supported by Turks. They fought well, but French troops ware much better and they took the first building.
In the meantime on the French left wing the Mameluks cavalry prepared they way to charge. The French cavalry was blocked by the rought terrain and cannot did a movement, so the infantry on this flank took the defending positions. One battalion did not this on time and been massacred by Spahisi.
To make much more cofused French cavalry, Mameluks took they position in front of the rough terrain, so the the Frenchmen cannot do anything at all...
In the village the fight goes on. After the first victory the French troops decided to destroy Ottoman cannons. they charged the first one, destroyed it and then they had been destroyed by Janissaries. (By the way it was very good day for Janissaries).
We wiosce walka trwała nadal.
In the same time the victorious Spahisi continued they charge. They choose new French troops just arrived on the battlefield, but they forgot about the French cavalry. Spahisi has been attacked by them and twice push back, just in front the French cannons. The artillery finished the job, and the Spahisi become the legend.
Artyleria skończyła pracę i Spahisi przeszli do legendy.
After this victory French troops assaulted the next building. The Albanians had a lot of luck this time, becouse by their fire they disordered one of the French units, and the other cannot atack the building. Finally the French commander took the 'Follow me' command, and the albanian luck has finished. The French was not very effective, and it took few turns to finally took this building. The second building was taken.
Francuzi byli jednak mało efektywni i zajęło im kilka tur by w końcu zdobyć ten budynek. Drugi budynek został więc zdobyty.
The Ottomans forgot about the third building and Frenchmen took it in the next turn. 75% of the village was in French hands. The victory was very close. However Turks still had one building left.
Otomani zapomnieli o trzecim budynku i Francuzi zajęli go w następnej turze. 75% wioski było w rękach Francuzów. Zwycięstwo było blisko. Jednakże Turcy cały czas byli w posiadaniu ostatniego domostwa.

The French troops moved forward. But then something terrible happend. During the fire beetwen troops in the first captured building and the Turks supported by Janissaries, the French unit took a lot casualties and had been destroyed. In this building the bullet hit Bonaparte and and he fell dead... Mon Dieu!!! The empty building was very quick took by Janissaries.
It was the end of the battle... The final chapter of the battle took place on the left flank.  French Camel cavalry clashed with the Mamluks, and it was defeated...
The battle ended in with a clear Ottoman and Mamluk victory. Particularly painful for French was the death of  Bonaparte. It seems to me that the Ottomans and Mamluks factors were strongly overestimated. In a real battle, the French took an incredible victory and even they were strongly surprised that it came so easily. In the real battle were killed 75 French and  a lmost 400 Mamluks. But anyway it was very good game. Colin summed it up thus: 'I never expected that the Napoleonic game can bring so much fun'.
W prawdziwej bitwie poległo 75 Francuzów i aż 400 Mameluków.

Polska 1944 (19); Poland 1944 (20) - Kfz 15 Horch + 15-cm Nebelwerfer 41

Cena £3 jeszcze bardziej skusiła mnie do zakupu.
Some time ago, when I was on shoping in the Edinburgh City Centre, on the one of the Charity Shops displays I spot model of Kfz.15 Horch with 15cm Nebelwerfer 41. It is one of this models usually attached to the magazines (ready made model), unfortunately, I was unable to find which one... But it doesn't matter. The prize, £3  even more tempted me to buy. This model has been presented in colors of 6 Pz.Div. from the times of battle of Kursk in 1943.

Ponieważ chciałem mieć model pasujący do reszty moich modeli, potrzebne było przemalowanie. Do pozbycia się starej farby użyłem doskonałego specyfiku, jakim jest płyn do dezynfekcji ran firmy Dettol. Doskonale usuwa on starą farbę, przy okazji nie uszkadza on modelu.
Because I wanted to have a model that matches the rest of my models, it was necessary to repaint. To remove old paint I used the excellent specific, which is the antiseptic liquid from Dettol. It perfectly removes old paint, by the way does not damage the model. Model after the treatment has a peculiar odor, but this should not cause a problem.

Po usunięciu farby pomalowałem go w barwy bardziej pasujące do roku 1944 i mojej kolekcji "Polska 1944". Aby dodatkowo uatrakcyjnić ten model dodałem kierowcę i pasażera (figurki Dixon Miniatures). W najbliższym czasie planuję jeszcze dodać obsługę Nebelwerfera. Na dzień dzisiejszy model prezentuje się tak:
After removing the old paint I painted it in the colors more suitable to the year 1944 and my collection of "Poland 1944". To make this model more attractive  I added the driver and a passenger (both are Dixon Miniatures figures). In the near future I plan to add crew for Nebelwerfer. At this moment, the model looks like this:
Figurki wymagają jeszcze zmatowienia, ale zanim to zrobię muszę opanować technikę matowienia specyfikiem od GamesWorkshop - Purity Seal.
Figures still need more matt, but before I will do this, I still need to improve my matt techinic with GamesWorkshop's product - Purity Seal.

Rue de Steenvoorde 1940

Today's report from yesterday's battle will be completely different than before. After the advices of several people and observations of the relations on others blogs, I decided to present my battles a little differently than before , In my opinion in a more interesting way. Thanks Phil (his blog) for the good advices and Sławek (his blog) for the way of relations, which I decided to copy.

Our last game was played at Hugh's Wilson home. Susanne Wilson, as always prepared 'before the battle' meal, for which we are sincerely grateful to her. Table sizes 5 to 14 feet has been fully prepared with items belonging to Hugh and it looked excellent (which you can judge by the pictures attached to the post). Figures and models came from the collections of: Hugh, Colin Jack, Campbell Hardie and Donald Anderson (important issues did not allow him to take part in the fun). The scenario based on real events has been prepared by Campbell.
Nasza ostatnia gra, została rozegrana w domu u Hugha Wilsona.

British Orders (Martin Gibson and myself)
Rozkazy brytyjskie (Martin Gibson i ja)

Gentlemen, the situation is serious. The Hun have pushed us back and we are being evacuated from Dunkirk. We, the rearguard have been ordered to withdraw in good order to Dunkirk to escape to Blighty. Our allies, the French will be taking over the line but we need to buy them time to set up. They will be digging in just south of Steenvoorde while we advance to Dunkirk from the more southerly village of Eecke. Unfortunately it will be on foot as Jerry aircraft shot our pickup convey to bits just a few minutes ago.
I cannot stress the importance of this enough. We are not here to hold ground but to escape to Dunkirk, ensuring that the French can have time to hold the line for us. We are to minimise casualties where possible so we live to fight another day.
Panowie sytuacja jest poważna. Hunowie zepchnęli nas i jesteśmy w trakcie ewakuacji z Dunkierki. My, tylnia straż otrzymaliśmy rozkaz by wycofać się w dobrym porządku do Dunkierki by uciec na Wyspy.
Musimy maksymalnie ograniczyć nasze straty, aby przeżyć do dnia kiedy walka będzie ponownie mozliwa.

Rozkazy francuskie (Tim Watson)
Our English “allies” are deserting us thanks to that untrustworthy soak Churchill yet they are determined to fight to the last Frenchman. We are to set up a line South of Steenvoorde and let les Anglais run to Dunkirque where they will evacuate to Perfidious Albion. For the honour and glory of France we will hold the line and allow them to run.
Nasi angielscy „alianci” porzucaja nas i dzięki temu nierzetelnemu Churchillowi są bardzo zdeterminowani by walczyć do ostatniego Francuza. Jesteśmy tu by utworzyć linię na południe od Steenvoorde i pozwolić Anglais uciec do Dunkirque, gdzie beda mogli się ewakuować do Perfidnego Albionu. Rozkazy niemieckie (Colin i Hugh)
We have the British on the run. They are abandoning their French allies and scuttling to Dunkirk where we will push them into the sea. All our panzers are to the west of us but advanced elements have just take the village of Eecke and have reported British troops in headlong retreat to the North. It is our job to overrun them and inflict maximum casualties on them, break the French line south of Steenvoorde and advance to glory. We will keep pushing forward no matter the cost. Victory is within our grasp. Heil Hitler!
Zmusiliśmy Brytyjczyków do odwrotu. How the game was played:
Jak rozegrano grę:

The British decided to wait for the Germans on their positions on both sides of the road. Each of the teams delegates one section, which will be withdrawing whilst the rest will resist to the enemy when it appear.
Team No 1 - Bart
Team No2 - Martin

British guns. Brytyjskie działa.
Finally the Germans arrived, but before that happened the first event took place. In the distance the French aircraft appear, which fired the first encountered unit (by drawing, it turned out that they were British ...) What to do ... such a life.
Then was the single shot. The 8Rad, the first in German column, stand in the fire and exploded...
Wtedy słychać było pojedynczy strzał. 8Rad, pierwszy w niemieckiej kolumnie, stanął w płomieniach i eksplodował...
It was British AT rifle team!
To była brytyjska sekcja karabinu ppanc.!
Germans discovered that, it will not be easy... They tried to crush the British defense with artillery, unsuccessfully... Their missiles missed the target...
Niemcy odkryli, nie będzie łatwo... Próbowali skruszyć brytyjską obrone przy pomocy artylerii, bezskutecznie... Ich pociski chybiły...
Thus it was necessary to get closer to the enemy, but this began to retreat.
In the meantime the French arrived, who began preparing their defensive positions and it would be all when it comes to any other activity from their side... They will not let Britis to fight to the last Frenchmen...
Germans in a series of hand to hand fights , broke up a major defense of the British and their motorized troops overrun the Brits. But once again remaind its presence the British AT rifle, which began elimination of Hanomags.
It was enough! Germans decided to solve the problem AT Rifle in melee. Problem has been solved!
Tego było za wiele! Niemcy postanowili rozwiązać problem karabinu ppanc. w walce wręcz. Problem został rozwiązany!

This was not the end of surprises for the Germans. Suddenly on their heads and roofs of their vehicles sprinkled the rain of steel. It was the British heavy artillery. Germans suffered heavy losses, but more and more new units arrived on the battlefield.
To dała znać o sobie, brytyjska ciężka artyleria.
British losses were quite large, and it also increased by the French pilot, who again appeared over the battlefield and again accidentally fired at the British.
Straty brytyjskie były już dość duże, a dodatkowo powiększył je francuski pilot, który znów pojawił się nad polem walki i znowu omyłkowo ostrzelał Brytyjczyków.
Due to the lack of time, we had to finish the game. It ended with a minor Germans victory. To tell the truth it have lost because of my insubordination, rather than withdraw my forces, I stood to fight against Germans...
The game was really successful. The end of the turn system proved to be excellent. Additional special events, prepared specially for this game, provide an extra flavor. Campblell as a umpiring the game deserves an A + + + . Our work on improving  Bolt Action! rules are underway!
Nasze prace nad udoskonalaniem zasad Bolt Action! trwają.
