Carronade 2021.

Finally, my first show since 2019! The Carronade 2021 was organised by Falkirk District Wargaming Club. The current situation forced the organizers a few changes. Firstly, there was no participation games, only a demo. Secondly, there was no flea market. Also, the number of traders were much lower than usual. Anyway, the magnificent club displays and a lot of so long no seen wargamers compensated for all the inconveniences. Here are all historical games, which took my attention during the show:

There also was the painting competition, but the number of participants was very small if compared to previous shows.

At the beginning of this report, I told you, that there were no participations games. However, I managed to join Dave Imrie and Nicol Murray and their game. Dave is the main face behind the Claymore Casting Miniatures which produces very fine figures for late  Medieval. Right now they work on their own gaming system and I had the chance to test it during the show. The rules are concerned about the Hundred Years War, but in my opinion, it could be extended to any Medieval conflict. The system is very easy to learn (I cathed the basic rules very quickly) and gives you a nice flavour of fighting of that period. It still hasn't its final name. In our game, I lead the French against English (something similar to the battle of Crecy, but on a smaller scale). I used my crossbows as the screen for my cavalry. During the whole game, my crossbows moved forward and exchanged fire with English bowmen. All of the wounds and kills accumulates in my infantry and my cavalry was still intact. That tactic allowed me to finally shortened the distance, between my units and the enemy. In the last turn of the game, I ordered the charge of my knights. Sadly for my brave crossbows, they ride over them, causing more casualties among them, but thanks to that my cavalry reached the enemy. That was deadly for English. Their ranks broke and gave me the victory of the game.

Obecnie pracują oni nad własnymi zasadami gry i miałem okazję przetestować je podczas konwentu.

And finally, my shopping basket. I bought some stuff for my Sudan collection, for Poles in 1920 and the new update to Rapid Fire rules. Also some steel paper for the safety of my figures.

I w końcu mój koszyk z zakupami.

By the way, today my blog has its 10 years birthday. Yes, 10 years ago I posted for the very first time (how this time is going so quick!). However, we will celebrate it a little later ;)

Guns of August - test game pt.1. - gra testowa cz. 1.

Finally in full scale, the Guns of August. Some time ago Michael decided to transfer his board game into a game with figures. He printed a large map from the game, which is 8'x12' and all tokens were transferred into bases with 6mm figures. The scale of that is extraordinary and looks stunning. We are going to play the whole game, but we need some tests before. We had some questions about the game and this and the next test should give us answers for that.

W końcu to mamy, Guns of August w pełnym wymiarze.

Here we had to stop. We managed to play 4 turns and we decided to play only three during the club evening in the future. Cleaning the table and do a transfer job into the next game taking more time, than we thought. Some game rules were quite hard to understand for us (not Michael), but in my case, I think it was much more a problem of hectic times at work (I was unable to do simple math) than game mechanics. We will think about it as well. Anyway, next Thursday will be the continuation of that game. For Central Powers played Campbell and me, for Entente Michael and Alisdair.

Sprzątanie stołu i transferowanie do następnej gry zajęło nam więcej czasu, niż myśleliśmy.

I hope to see some of you on Carronade in Falkirk this Saturday (25.09.2021)!
