Western front 1918. Front zachodni 1918.

Today very short report from our yesterday game played in our club. Some time ago, the idea has been raised to play late WW1 using the Chain of Command rules. Soon first test game has been played. Yesterday we had the second game and I took part in that.
Dzisiaj bardzo krtki raport z naszej wczorajszej klubowej gry. Jaki czas temu pad pomysł rozegrania gry późnego okresu I WŚ z uzyciem zasad Chain of Command, wkrótce tez pierwsza gra została rozegrana. Wczoraj mieliśmy druga grę, w której wziąłem udział.

2. The game. Gra.

First sorry for lack of pictures, but the game was so good, that I forgot to take the pictures. In our game Germans had to take control over French first line of the trenches. They moved off their line and stuck on the "No man's land" pinned with our deadly fire. This time we used the concentrated fire, that means all our fire was placed on one unit until it broke, and then we moved on the next unit. This tactic worked very well. During our game I was called the "silent  killer of the officers", as I managed to kill almost all German officers (I think that the only one, from four or five survived the game). Germans used the support of Mk V tank, however for the most of the game it stayed useles and our fears about it were superfluous. Germans managed finally bring one unit close to our positions, but very soon has been pushed back and broke. The same happend in front of my positions, were two units broke and finally whole German morale went down to 0 and the game has finished with our victory.

3. Summary. Podsumowanie.

CoC worked very well with late period of WW1 and the trench warfare. Germans made a huge mistake and 9 points of support they spend on tank (but try not to, if you have such a model available...), not on infantry as they should. If they got more infantry it was very possible that they would reach our lines finally and maybe get victory. The game brings the "no man's land" slaughter, the main issue of that period, so it was very historical and accurate. Next games will follow soon. Now I move to september 1812 and the first venue of the year so watch this space.
Jeśli posiadali by więcej piechoty być może dotarli by do naszych linii i bardzo prawdopodobnie osiągnęli by zwycięstwo.

  1. Glad to see this kind of terrain (even if pictures are rare!)...so realistic for a WW1 game...seems to be a good, and realistic, battle!

    1. Thank you Phil. This terrain was created long time ago for one of our club's display games (it was long before I joined the club). Because of the theme of our game it would be a sin to not use it.

  2. One wonders, how they did get through though, isn't it? ;) A rarity indeed.
