Paris (1). Paryż (1)

Last month I was on my holiday in Paris. I have seen many great places and museums, however in this place I would like to share few pictures and informations about places, which every wargamer should visit. Of course the The Louvre and all art museums are worth to see, the same as the Eiffel Tower, but this is for all, but same places are important for us in particular.

First of all, I had the feeling, that the  Emperor was present in every place I was in Paris. It was either the Napoleon's statue or in different way connected with him things, like pictures, t-shirts, fridge magnets etc. However it is nothing bad. Bonaparte is the one of the famous person of the world and in my personal believe is the most famous Frenchman of all time (despite the fact that he wasn't French at all...). Anyway, connected with him, will be the first think we need to see. It is painting of his coronation by Jacques-Louis David. To see it, you need to visit The Louvre. It is very easy to find that picture (as it is one of the Highlights of the museum). The majestic of that picture is just impresive.

The second think is the Arc de Triomphe. As the monument created to honor French soldier of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars, it is special place for all of us, who did not played that period on yours tables, any? As for me, I spend a lot of time to find all of the Polish names and battlefield connected with Polish army (ally to the France). It is worth to go up (no lift and only a lot of stairs). Beside the fantastic view on Paris, there is small expositions of 3D photos of the uniforms from the 1WW.

Next place, worth to visit is the Pantheon. First, it is the place of burials few famous peples (for example Marie Skłodowska Curie). However the most impresive things are the paintings from the most important events of the French history.

Summer in Russia, 1943. Lato w Rosji, 1943.

Some time ago Alan Hynd together with his father tried the Battlegroup rules for the first time. They did not have them quite well, so they asked me to help them with the rules. That happened last Thursday. I prepared for them a game for 540 pts, using the Kursk lists, however Alan can not made it and I jumped instead of him to the game, faced his father instead.

2. The game. Gra.

Before the game I gave Allan option to choose the side. He pick up the Germans, so I stayed with Soviets. I won the initiative of the game. However, despite some preparations at home, I forgot to take my Soviet HQ... So we decided to treated it as the battle loss, so I had to pick up two counters, however Allan lost the Recce turn, so he had to pick up counter too. Objectives of the game were: crossroad in the village and the biggest hill. As the first unit I pushed my NKVD officer (he gave me extra 3 BR) and took the first objective (the crossroad). Allan pushed his infantry forward in 251s,  to flank my positions in the village. That was mistake, becouse he push them unsupported just infront my T-70s. They quickly deal with the halftrucks and soon I got support of T-34s. In the meantime, he brought all his tanks and took the hill. Surprisingly he stopped on the hill and decided to destroy my forces with his guns. In my opinion he supposed to use the advantage of his forces (I had very poor reinforcements rolls) and push me back of the table. He did not and he payed the price. Soon a lot of Soviet tanks outmaneuvered Germans and soon Allan started collecting the counters. German tanks can not stand against T-34's guns. Finally Allan's forces get broken and I won the game (with a half of the BRs lost).

Przed grą dałem Allanowi wybór stron.Wybrał Niemców, więc mi pozostali Sowieci. Wygrałem inicjatywę w grze. Jednak pomimo przygotowań w domu, zapomniałem zabrać ze sobą sowieckie naczelne dowództwo... Zdecydowaliśmy się traktować to jako stratę w boju, więc pobrałem dwa żetony, jednak Allan przegrał turę rozpoznania i tez musiał pobrac żeton. Celami w grze zostały: skrzyżowanie we wsi i największa góra. Allan puścił w 251kach swoją piechotę, by oskrzydlić moje pozycje we wsi.

3. Summary. Podsumowanie.

Despite the loss, Allan will be happy to check the rules for another time. We also are going to use Alan's models, but with the Fall of the Reich supplement this time. That game will have place next week.
Jednak tym razem wykorzystamy dodatek Fall of the Reich. Ta gra odbędzie w przyszłym tygodniu.

The Battle at Peekskill. Bitwa pod Peekskill.

Last Thursday we had our AWI campaign game. Campbell's forces (he act as lord Cornwallis) finishing cleaning from the Rebels New York collony. At the village of Peekskill he met large contingent of Colonists who where willing to fight! I jumped into a game as Campbell's subordinate with an order to take the village and kill all Rebels. So I had to take the village over the river, it sounds very familiar...

1. Forces. Siły

Jim and Bill played the Americans and me together with Campbell the British.
Jim i Bill grali Amerykanami, natomiast ja i Campbell, Brytyjczykami.

2. The game. Gra.

Game from the beginning divided into two separate battles. Me against Bill defending the village and Campbell who tried crossed the river and face Jim's forces awaiting in small forest on the hill. In my battle I had under my orders quite big forces, consist of two brigades, supported with a gun. I still had in my memory the struggle I had few months ago, when I had to fight in similar scenario (it was Napoleonic game, when Poles tried to cross a river and take the town). This time I was going to use that experience to win a battle. Therefore I created the firing cover for the troops, who were going to cross the river. This time I pushed soldiers in march columns through the bridge and did not forget to rally my troops. That helped me as same as Bill's lack of good scores on his dice at the end of the game. I should lost at least one battalion, but lucky for me it hasn't happened and soon the village was cleared from Colonists.
Wciąż mam w pamięci moje zmagania w podobnym scenariuszu rozegranym kilka miesięcy temu (to była napoleońska gra, gdzie Polacy próbowali przekroczyć rzekę i zdobyć miasto). Tym razem postanowiłem wykorzystać to doświadczenie by wygrać bitwę.

Completely different looks game between Campbell and Jim. For the most of the time Campbell tried to cross the river, but his command rolls were terrible bad. For the most of the time his forces were under constant fire from hidden American troops. Finally he managed to cross the river and charged the Colonists with his bayonets. I am not sure when it actually happend, was it during the charge or just before, but he lost one of his battalions who suffer casualties from very accurate American fire. The need for revange pushed Campbell against Rebels and in fierce fight he pushed Americans off the table. Only one American battalion survived, who managed to escape from New York. Now Mr Cornwallis is the time, to cross the Hudson!
Zupełnie inaczej wyglądała gra pomiędzy Campbellem i Jimem. To teraz Panie Cornwallis czas przekroczyć Hudson!
