Border Wars. Wojny pograniczne.

My blog was off for some time. That's the problem with the end of the Winter. I just was to quite lazy and sleepy, to write anything. The painting job has slow down, but now it's time to stop it and be back in control again. Now I need to do some updates to the blog. First the game from two weeks ago. It was try of new set from Jim Conquer's. The game was played at Hugh Wilson's house.
Mój blog był wyłączony przez jakiś czas. To zwykły problem z końcem zimy.

SCENARIO/SCENARIUSZ: Jim Conquer
GAME UMPIRING/PROWADZENIE GRY: Jim Conquer

MODELS&FIGURES/ MODELE I FIGURKI: Jim Conquer.

Scotland and England were frequently at war during  from the late 13th century to the beginning of the 17th century.  During these wars, the livelihood of the people on the borders was devastated by the contending armies. Even when the countries were not at war, tension remained high, and royal authority in either kingdom was often weak. The uncertainty of existence meant that communities or people kindred to each other would seek security through their own strength and cunning, and improve their livelihoods at their nominal enemies' expense. Loyalty to a feeble or distant monarch and reliance on the effectiveness of the law usually made people a target for depredations rather than conferring any security. In that circumstances born the group of people called the Border Reivers. The reivers were both English and Scottish and raided both sides of the border impartially, so long as the people they raided had no powerful protectors. Great subject for wargaming and its very popular in UK.

Jim Conquer created very simple set of rules describing that period of time, but in my opinion it could be played in every period till the end of age of gunpowder and before the era of machine guns. Every player have a group of figures included the Laird (warlord - only one), Heidmen (well armoured - max 3), Reivers (light armoured) and Bondsmen (the Levies). Every figure have their own stats for their skill such as armour strenghts, shooting skills combat ratings etc. Every skill have the rating from 1 (low) to 6 (high). The system is IGoYouGo. Rest of the set describes the rules for hand to hand combat, shooting, ambushes etc. The system structure allow us to lead the army of no more then 10 men, that is due to the different abilities of our figures. The system is very easy to learn. Another good set from Jim. I hope that he is going to publish it.

In our game our team (Tim Watson, Hugh Wilson and myself) had to conquer the enemies castle (Donald Adamson, Colin Jack and Campbell Hardie). This time our team managed to open the gate but the castle remain in enemies hands. So this time we had been defeated. Till the next time!
W naszej grze nasz zespół (Tim Watson, Hugh Wilson i ja) mieliśmy za zadanie zdobyć wrogi zamek (Donald Adamson, Colin Jack i Campbell Hardie).
