France 1940. Francja 1940.

Our adventure with the Bolt Action continued. This week in SESWC we returned to the early period of World War II: Blitzkrieg in France.
Nasza przygoda z zasadami Bolt Action trwa w najlepsze. W tym tygodniu w SESWC powróciliśmy do wczesnego okresu Drugiej Wojny Światowej: Blitzkriegu we Francji.

SCENARIO/SCENARIUSZ: Campbell Hardie
FIGURES&MODELS/FIGURKI I MODELE: Campbell Hardie
SCENERY/SCENERIA: Bartek Żynda, SESWC

1. Orders/Rozkazy.
It's after the evacuation of British troops from Dunkirk. The French are trying to resist the Germans but Huns quickly approaching Paris. To support the possible assault of the French capital, the command of the Wehrmacht decided to get the hills behind the small French village that will be an excellent position for the heavy artillery. Germans, of course, expect the French resistance, and therefore for this action they delegate quite significant forces.

3. The Game/Gra.
The German plan was to recognize French positions in the village, then tied them with fight, then encircle them and then break them. Units were also to encircle the village and then secure positions on the hills.
Germans began the march with reconnaissance vehicle in front, it was very worthwhile, because French AT guns fired at it as the first. The vehicle managed to withdraw, and  Pz 38 (t) tanks together with Pz IVdestroyed the French gun. In addition, a squad of French infantry get panicked and left their positions behind.
Dodatkowo jedna z drużyn francuskiej piechoty spanikowała i w popłochu opuściła swoje pozycje.
French decided to bring reinforcements. On both sides appeared French tanks and one of them got into a fight with the German tanks. The advantage of the French vehicle was significant  and soon German Pz 38 (t) was only a burning wreck. French attack was supported by a fire of MMG and mortar, but it stopped the Germans only for a moment.
French resistance forced the Germans to support the attack with their infantry, however, German soldiers fell under the fire of ambushed unit of French infantry. The situation became for the Germans at least annoying. And then French called for their Air support...
I wtedy Francuzi wezwali lotnictwo...
As you have already noticed, in our games the air support usually shooting at their own units and it did this again this time. It went up without a very big losses but most of of French troops have been pinned down. Germans used this situation and moved to the attack.
To wykorzystali Niemcy i ruszyli do natarcia.
The German attack was also supported by the air force, but this time the Luftwaffe did not bring the shame and attacked the proper enemy. On the right flank excellent shoot from Pz 38 (t) destroyed French S35 tank, also the German infantry supported by machine guns from transporters destroyed the French MMG and broke into the village. On the left flank one of the German units was pinned to the ground, but for the Germans it was not a problem, because in that moment the defense French of the  left flank was broken and Germans were free to take the positions on the hills. It is worth mentioning about the duel beetween the German Pz III  and another French S35, also won by a German tank. So the German victory was complete.

4. Summary/Podsumowanie.

In our game we used the game cards instead of dice, one for each unit plus five additional cards. Two Jokers drawn indicated the end of the turn, and three aces drawn a random event. Side which was afected by random event was related in a dice duel  and the player with a lower result drawn an event for himself. This is Campbell's original idea, which I really liked. On the table, you can also  see my roads, which guide how to do it will soon appear on this blog.

And, as usual, at the end, gallery from the game in higher resolution on my flickr:
