Talvisota (SESWC game)

This thursday was something new for me. It was 28mm game with Triumph&Tragedy rules. Before the report from our game I have to tell you about this ruleset. It cover the period from 1900 to 1939 and its very simple but very enjoyable game. I think this set probably will be one of my favorites for this period.

Tym razem nasza czwartkowa gra była dla mnie czymś nowym. Był to zestaw zasad Triumph&Tragedy dla figur 28mm. Zanim zamieszczę raport z gry, trochę słów o tych zasadach. Można ich używać do gier odtwarzających okres od roku 1900 do 1939 i są bardzo proste i do tego bardzo bardzo grywalne zasady. Myślę, że ten zestaw będzie jednym z moich ulubionych dla gier z tego okresu.

Battlefield. Pole bitwy.

Now few words about the game we played. This time it was the Winter War, Talvisota. The scenario set up by Colin. He put the Finnish forces defending a small village against the hords of Soviets. I played Finns, while Colin and Bill commanded Soviets.

Teraz kilka słów o naszej grze. Tym razem odgrywaliśmy Wojnę Zimową, Talvisota. Scenariusz był autorstwa Colina. Według niego Finowie mieli za zadanie obronić małą wieś przed hordami Sowietów. Ja dowodziłem Finami, z kolei Bill i Colin Sowietami.

The game started with Soviets advantage. I did not moved my troops during the first turn, I've been waiting in the ambush. I've had less troops this time, but better skilled than the opponents and I used the finnish strategy: let them get very close, then pin them down and then kill them all. And the game exactly looked like this. Bill and Colin tryed to get close to my troops, then they ware pinned down by my mashine guns, so they cannot move forward and then they ware eliminated by my riflemans. This time I've been very lucky, becouse I passed all the morale test (two of my units lost more then 70% of their initial sizes). At the end of the game Bill and Colin lost 3 units (they simply escaped from the battlefield), 21 figures dead and destroyed one tank (by fire of my HMG!!!), while I lost only 13 figures and I still had one whole unit as the reserves. So it was Finnish definitive victory.

Gra rozpoczęła się od Sowieckiego natarcia. W pierwszej turze nie wykonałem żadnego ruchu. Czekałem w zasadzce. Tym razem miałem mniej sił, ale lepiej wyszkolonych niż przeciwnicy i użyłem fińskiej strategii: pozwól im się zbliżyć, przygwoźdź ich do ziemi a następnie wszystkich wybij. I gra dokładnie tak wyglądała. Wpierw unieruchamiałem ich ogniem moich karabinów maszynowych, tak że nie mogli poruszyć się od przodu a następnie wykańczałem ich ogniem mojej piechoty. Tym razem miałem dość dużo szczęścia, ponieważ przeszedłem pozytywnie wszystkie testy morale (dwa z moich oddziałów poniosły po ponad 70% strat). Pod koniec gry Colin i Bill stracili 3 oddziały (uciekły z pola walki), 21 figur wyeliminowanych i zniszczony jeden czołg (ogniem ckm), podczas gdy ja straciłem jedynie 13 figur i dodatkowo posiadałem cały czas jeden oddział w rezerwie. Było to więc definitywne zwycięstwo Finów.
