Road to Bastogne 1944; Droga do Bastogne 1944

Battlefield: 1-German MG position; 2-German AT gun position; 3 US 1st platoon (under Dougie and Paul) and its advantage; 4-2nd US platoon with recon team and its advantage; 5-Front line at the end of the 10th turn.
Last Thursday's game was a continuation of the few last games we played in SESWC using the 15mm figures and models with the Battlegroup PzG rules. A scenario of this game was put after the battle of Lorraine during the Patton's rush to Bastogne in 1944. The game was umpired by Bob, Paul with a little help of Dougie took American and I took the Nazis.
My task for this game was to defend the road and try to stop Americans in their rush to Bastogne. The Yankee have to prepare the way for their tanks, which on their way. I have started with 1 platoon of infantry supported by MG and Panzerschreck, and 1 AT gun, the Americans have 2 riffle platoons both have MG, Recoon team: 1 Stuart and half truck with a mortar.
The scenario for this game said that the day before, another American Recee team has been destroyed by german AT. So they had the knowledge, that the gun is somewhere, but they don't know where (all my troops where hidden). American advantage was divided into 2 groups: 1st platoon with Recee team move along the road, and the second choice to move through the hedges and muddy fields on the right side of the table. This slow advantage was stopped by my MG. American try to eliminate my MG by using the Stuart tank, but then my AT start firing. The fire was not to good, but finely the tank has to retreat. It was my mistake and now Americans knew where my gun is placed, so the second team took their directions to that point. In the woods, there have to fight with 2 stands of my infantry, which slowly have been pushed back to the gun position (during that fight we lost by 1 stand both). Meanwhile the recon team fight with my MG. The point was, that Americans have to put an observer close to the village, to give coordinates for the mortar team. Paul decided to cover his Stuart tank in the hedges against my AT gun, so he took his tank of the road. It was a very bad idea because it bogged down and because he throws double 1 (very bad score), the crew abandon the vehicle. So that's the first loss of the battle. His infantry slowly moves forward, but my MG has a very good day. I manage to throw double 6 and his 1 stand and HQ stand has been killed (later on Paul decided to promote one of the riffles stands for HQ). Paul cannot move any farther than this, my MG blocked his way. At the end of turn 10, the American tanks arrived. The road still was uncleared, but allied dominance was very visible at this stage. My infantry hard fight in the forest to protect the gun, and my troops in the village fight hard to block the road. Attack of my ambushed Panzerschreck team stopped for the moment American tanks, but very quickly has been eliminated by MG. Because of the mortar fire, my MG has been suppressed. The tanks can make their way to the Bastogne. The game was over. We decided that it was a draw. At the end of 12th turn, my gun was still alive, but for few next turns, Americans will get their tasks done.
Amerykanie musieli tak ustawić swojego obserwatora, aby ten mógł namierzyć mój km i dzięki temu moździerz mógł go wyeliminować. Moje oddziały w lesie twardo broniły pozycji artylerii, a w wiosce walczono, by utrzymać blokadę drogi. Szybko też ogień moździerza uciszył mój km i droga do Bastogne stanęła otworem.
That was a very nice game using Battlegroup PzG rules. For me (I've just managed to read the rules the first time) and for Paul, it was a very good lesson on how to use the mechanism of the game. Next game will be probably a continuation of that game.

Happy New Year!!!!

Happy New Year to all of you!!!

I was quite busy last month, so my blog was half dead ;) Soon I will place some new links to the games I played last time and about the progress from building my armies.
