Mars-la-Tour 1870.

Our first game played in the new year. It is still online gaming, hosted by Michael (all pictures used in this relation are his). This time a what if? the scenario about the battle of Mars-la-Tour during the Franco-Prussian War. We used Black Powder rules spiced with some House Rules and with Michael's 10mm collection.

Do gry użyliśmy zasad Black Powder, przyprawionych kilkoma House Rules z użyciem Michaelowej kolekcji w skali 10mm.

2. The game. Gra.

In our game, we made some decisions that the French commanders had not taken during the original struggle. Two French divisions were moved back and rallied. As I always play French in almost every club's game, this war is not what I really like with this nation. The reasons are obvious, very low command rating. Seeing the outnumbered French and knowing the potential of Prussian guns I was expected that achieving a draw, will be very hard for the Second Empire. To make it equal we made a Prussian CinC a 9 and the rest an 8.

By jednak zrównać trochę siły, pruski głównodowodzący otrzymał poziom 9 a cała reszta miała 8.

I decided to attack the left Prussian flank with half of my infantry, most of the artillery and all cavalry. The rest of my troops were going to distract the enemy and attack his other flank. I decided to not attack the centre, where were most of the Prussian artillery. To my surprise, I started to push back the Prussians!

Ku mojemu zdziwieniu, zacząłem spychać siły pruskie do tyłu.

All my cavalry, without the guns, which have been used to support my infantry, moved around the table to flank Prussians on their right. Michael tried to prevent it with his cavalry, but he did not send them all. Some units were going to attack my infantry. Until it happened, the French after a long battle managed to crush the Prussian cavalry and opened the way to attack their flank. Once again the French horses proved their superiority over their German counterparts.

Cała moja kawaleria, bez dział, które zostały użyte by wesprzeć piechotę, ruszyła wokół stołu by zaatakować pruską prawą flankę. Kilka oddziałów zostało wysłanych by zaatakować moją piechotę.

In the meantime, my attack on the Prussian left continued. I have reached their lines but then been repulsed with heavy casualties. I repeated the attack and even managed to push back Prussians a little and then had to withdraw again. However, that was my intention, to keep those Prussian busy, especially most of their guns. They were unable to support their troops where my main attack took place.

My main attack went on Vionville. First my Zuaves and then supported by the rest of the French division. I managed to push back the Prussians, but soon their forces were supported by guns and infantry. I repeated the attacks but being repulsed, mainly because of the guns and lack of my artillery, which slowly moved towards enemies. To slow me down, Michael charged with some of his cavalry against my infantry. Surely it would have worked in earlier times, but with these war realities it turned out to be a big mistake. Cavalry gets shattered and had to withdraw. Finally, the German guns get silenced, because of lack of ammunition. That was the time when my artillery spoke. That was devastating for Prussians. All their guns have been destroyed and all his units were shaken! However, my troops were also in bad shape, but fresh units arrived and I was ready for the final push. Unfortunately, we had not enough time for that and the game finished with a draw.

Mój główny atak poszedł na Vionville. Wpierw moi Żuawi a potem wsparci resztą francuskiej dywizji. To zdewastowało Prusaków.
